Byun Woo-seok’s Side Ceases Work with Security Firm after Airport Controversy

Based on OSEN’s inquiry on July 23, it has been revealed that the agency of Byun Woo-seok has terminated their contract with security firm A, following the recent controversy surrounding excessive airport security measures.

On the 12th, Byun Woo-seok came under fire for the behavior of his security guards during his departure from Incheon International Airport for a fan meeting in Hong Kong. The guards reportedly caused disruptions by blocking exits, using bright lights in the lounge area, and even checking passports and tickets of general passengers.

Passengers began to voice their complaints, and the issue gained attention on online communities, shedding light on the excessive security measures. While airport security is responsible for monitoring gates to prevent safety incidents involving celebrities, they do not have the authority to randomly request identification or tickets from passengers.

The security firm representative expressed regret for the use of force during a call with OSEN, but emphasized that the decisions were made in collaboration with airport security and were not made independently. The representative clarified that the lounge area was overcrowded with individuals without tickets attempting to gain entry, and the actions were taken to control the overcrowding and only allow those with valid reasons to enter.

Despite this, the Incheon International Airport Corporation denied involvement in the checks, claiming they were not coordinated with airport security. This only added to the controversy surrounding the incident.

The Incheon International Airport Corporation is contemplating taking legal action against Byun Woo-seok’s security firm, while the police have launched an inquiry to determine if six employees of the security firm could potentially face charges for obstructing business and using coercion.

During a National Assembly committee meeting, Lee Hak-jae, the CEO of Incheon International Airport Corporation, acknowledged the airport’s responsibility for not detecting the unprecedented incident. He also mentioned plans to collaborate with the police in establishing rules for private security firms’ behavior within the airport and to seek stricter penalties for any violations.

In light of this, Byun Woo-seok’s agency has chosen to end their partnership with the contentious security company. Despite this, the agency informed OSEN that they are refraining from making any statements regarding the matter at this time. As Byun Woo-seok currently has no plans for international activities, the agency will address the situation at a later date.
