What is a PokéStop Event in Pokémon Go?
A PokéStop Trial is a new type of competition in Pokémon Go that allows you to show off your best Pokémon in an effort to beat other trainers and rise to the top of that PokéStop leaderboard.
When you come across a PokéStop Event, tap it to find out which specific Pokémon are allowed to participate and what the competition’s winning criteria is. This could be something like having the largest Squirtle or the smallest Charmander.
The species of Pokémon that can participate in a Trial changes with each event. For example, during Pokémon Go’s 7th anniversary event, you could only enter Squirtles.
PokéStop Events are one-off activities, which will only be present during specific events. So don’t expect to come across them every day during your walks.
How to find a PokéStop Event in Pokémon Go?
You can spot PokéStop Events on the Pokémon Go map, thanks to the small blue disk floating above the PokéStops concerned. These discs will turn purple once you enter a Pokémon in the test.
PokéStop Trials only appear on predefined PokéStops. You may therefore have to wander a little further than in your usual playing area to come across a challenge.
The PokéStops that host the events will remain the same throughout each season. So try to remember the PokéStops you need to go to when new events appear.
How to win a PokéStop Event in Pokémon Go?
If you’re looking to become the champion of a PokéStop Event, you’ll need to be careful about what’s judged. This could be the entry for the tallest Pokémon or the smallest Pokémon… or maybe even other criteria in the future?
You can check what a current PokéStop Trial is looking for by tapping on the PokéStop and pressing the ‘Trial’ button. You will then be able to see the current leader in the standings, the rules of the Event, and the end time of the competition.
Each Pokémon eligible for the competition will display and tell you the number of ‘points’ it would earn you if you enter it. To win, it is therefore in your best interest to use your Pokémon with the highest score.
The good news is that the Pokémon requested during an Event will still be available to encounter during the current event. This means you can spend time catching a Pokémon that fits the criteria for the Crucible if you don’t already have one.
Also note that it is possible to change the participating Pokémon at any time while the Trial is in progress. Additionally, you can switch Pokémon remotely.
PokéStop Trials rewards in Pokémon Go
Once a PokéStop Trial ends, all trainers who participated receive a reward.
Losers will receive small gifts like Stardust and XP.
The three players on the podium will be entitled to more attractive rewards: Incubators, Pieces of Star… and even a medal for the big winner!
Rewards can be collected directly via the PokéStop that hosted the event, or via the Today tab in the menu.
