Reports suggest that Sledgehammer Games is set to lead the development of Call of Duty 2027, marking a departure from the franchise’s recent focus on the Modern Warfare series.

Since co-developing Modern Warfare 3 back in 2011, Sledgehammer has played a pivotal role in the Call of Duty universe, contributing to titles such as Advanced Warfare, WWII, Vanguard, and the latest release, MW3.

With the recent launch of Black Ops 6, questions loom over the future trajectory of the Call of Duty series, particularly in light of recent leaks suggesting that Microsoft may adopt a more collaborative approach in decision-making going forward.

Future Expectations for Call of Duty 2027

Influential leaker TheGhostOfHope has indicated that Sledgehammer is positioning itself to take charge of the Call of Duty 2027 title. Notably, while Infinity Ward is expected to release MW4 in 2026, the subsequent year will not follow the recent trend of consecutive Modern Warfare entries.

Current speculation leaves open the possibility of Advanced Warfare 2 or an entirely different concept under Sledgehammer’s direction. However, this information remains largely unverified, so skepticism is advisable for now.

Interestingly, Sledgehammer previously experimented with a concept for Advanced Warfare 2 prior to shifting focus to WWII, thus leaving that narrative thread unresolved. A revival of the Advanced Warfare theme could spark excitement among fans, although the definitive details of such a project are currently unclear.

If the claims made by TheGhostOfHope hold any truth, it suggests that Activision is already mapping out a significant portion of its upcoming Call of Duty offerings.

However, one title noticeably absent from the lineup is Call of Duty 2025. In a follow-up on X, the leaker noted that the developer for this installment remains uncertain, mentioning that “nobody truly knows who [is developing] it yet tbh, but every studio is working on it. Pretty odd.”
