Call of Duty enthusiasts are expressing frustration with Black Ops 6 for lacking an early access campaign, a feature that was available in previous titles like Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3. Players were able to access the campaign days ahead of the multiplayer launch, allowing them to familiarize themselves with weapons, complete the storyline, and explore maps that were also featured in multiplayer.
However, Activision recently announced via an official statement to CharlieINTEL that Black Ops 6 will not offer campaign early access. Activision stated: “The team is fully focused on October 25th. We are excited about all the game has to offer across Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies.”
They continued, “This year, we made the decision to ensure the community gets to dig into any and all modes that they want at the same time, so we are back to one massive global launch moment on October 25th. As such, there is no Early Access beat this year for Black Ops 6, just the countdown to launch.”

This announcement was met with disappointment from gamers who were eager to enjoy the campaign before diving into multiplayer and Zombies. One player, Landon, voiced his disbelief, stating, “They make a fantastic decision one year, and the next walk back on it. I will never truly understand.” Another user, Queen Ti, remarked: “It was so nice having early access to the campaign so we can focus on leveling up guns at launch.”
While the sentiment was largely negative, some players were indifferent to the decision, with one user commenting, “We play it all the day it releases. I don’t see an issue here lol.” Others suggested that the absence of early access brought back the excitement of launching the game on a single day.
The campaign mode may not be the most celebrated aspect of any Call of Duty installment, yet there remains a dedicated player base that enjoys it. Despite its mixed popularity, the lack of early access may lead to some players feeling disappointed and choosing to focus on multiplayer formats instead.
Prior to this, Modern Warfare 3 faced extensive criticism upon release, receiving the lowest reviews in Call of Duty history, which may have influenced Activision’s choice to forgo early campaign access this year.
