CAP of Teen Top Comments on NewJeans’ Hanni Earning $3.8 Million USD as a Non-Korean Artist

In a recent YouTube video titled “NewJeans Hanni’s Parliamentary Audit is Problematic,” the commentator known as CAP expressed his views, stating, “After learning about Hanni’s participation in the parliamentary audit, I found her focus was predominantly on herself. Given that NewJeans is a group I regard as elite, how can any audience relate to her if she only shares her personal stories?”

He elaborated, “Self-promotion has its place, but shouldn’t that visibility be utilized to advocate for others? It would have been more illustrative to bring in trainees who are genuinely unpaid. If labor law violations are to be addressed, the discussion should center on the 10% of individuals who faced disrespect as contract workers and freelancers. Instead, she continuously referred to ‘our team’ and shared testimonials about ‘the person in charge of our team,’ which felt misplaced.”

Hanni

Referring to Hanni’s Vietnamese-Australian heritage and NewJeans’ reported settlement of 5.2 billion won (approximately $3.8 Million USD), he emphasized, “How does it appear when someone who isn’t Korean speaks about themselves 90% of the time? People generally assume that groups like NewJeans are financially flourishing, which can lead to negative perceptions—both for her and her group.”

CAP suggested that instead of Hanni discussing her lucrative earnings of $3.8 Million USD—given she’s a foreigner—it would be more beneficial to highlight issues of disrespect and bullying present within the entertainment landscape. He remarked, “Many vulnerable individuals surround me, with countless people linked to entertainment companies facing challenges. The emphasis should be on them, rather than the complaints about their team’s experiences with disrespect and bullying. While her participation was commendable, her message missed the mark.”

He argued further, saying, “For successful stars, life is more manageable. The real issues lie with those who are struggling to break through. The overlooked individuals are the real concern.” He continued, “To ensure your voice resonates, empathy must be cultivated with those existing in obscurity, which Hanni unfortunately did not achieve. It was disappointing to witness.”

On another note, there has been an ongoing dispute for the past seven months between HYBE and ADOR’s Director Min Hee-jin concerning allegations of misappropriated management rights. Both Min Hee-jin and NewJeans have raised allegations regarding HYBE’s practices of copying, disrespect, and bullying, resulting in Hanni and ADOR CEO Kim Ju-young being called as witnesses during the National Assembly audit.

At the Environment and Labor Committee’s audit on October 15th, Hanni addressed the issue of workplace bullying related to “idol ostracism.” She presented her thoughts on CEO Kim, stating, “I feel that CEO Kim did not put forth her utmost effort. There were numerous opportunities for her to take action, and despite her promises to protect us, she showed a lack of intent to follow through.” She concluded with, “I hope for improvements moving forward. While I recognize this issue may fade if we discuss it superficially, I wish for it to be resolved promptly.”
