CARATs Claim SEVENTEEN DK Is Silenced by HYBE For Supporting Palestine: Report

Despite being at the center of a controversy, SEVENTEEN DK has been facing allegations from fans who believe that he is being silenced by his management company, HYBE.

The accusation was made as fans persistently try to inform their idols about the ongoing genocide in Gaza, where the death toll has reportedly exceeded 35,000 due to Israeli attacks since October.

The residents of the Gaza Strip continue to endure immense difficulties, such as injuries, starvation, displacement, and the heartbreaking loss of their homes and loved ones.

K-Pop fans have been utilizing social media to express their opinions, promote hashtags, and coordinate boycotts aimed at HYBE. Their goal is for the company to sever ties with Zionism and dismiss HYBE America CEO Scooter Braun, who is known for his support of Zionism.

During a recent live broadcast on Weverse, the tension grew as a viewer’s comment brought to DK’s attention the dangers faced by Palestinian fans. The comment asked DK to show his support for Palestine by raising his hand.

During the live stream, DK subtly showed his support for Palestine by raising his hand, an action that was interpreted by many netizens.

The comment from the viewer, written in broken Korean, said, “If not worded correctly, please do this instead.”This lack of clarity caused different understandings: some thought it meant “If you are unable to discuss this, please raise your hand.”Others interpreted it as a request for clarification.

Despite this, DK’s spontaneous action on the live broadcast caused many to interpret it as a gesture of support.

After the broadcast, it was reported that certain parts of the live stream were removed, but the part where DK raised his hand was still included.

Fans theorized that the removals were possibly a result of spoilers or wardrobe malfunctions. However, the deletion of posts featuring clips of DK raising his hand on platforms such as X (previously known as Twitter) only added to the speculation of potential censorship by HYBE.

Despite HYBE’s close ties to Zionism, a significant number of fans believe that the company is deliberately silencing its artists from speaking out about the situation in Gaza.

It has been reported that comments discussing Palestine, including those featuring the Palestinian flag, were seemingly removed from live chat during broadcasts, further fueling accusations of censorship.

Another HYBE artist has gained attention online for liking posts related to the ongoing Palestinian tragedies. This could be seen as a subtle way for HYBE artists to express their support, despite the restrictions imposed by the company.

The conflict sheds light on the increasing conflict between fans’ desire for political involvement from their beloved stars and the business objectives of entertainment corporations.

Despite ongoing calls from fans for HYBE to end its involvement with Zionism, the discussion surrounding the artistic freedom of K-Pop artists remains a contentious issue.
