BBC’s latest article, “Will K-pop’s AI experiment pay off?”, featured SEVENTEEN and member Woozi in its discussion on the utilization of AI technology in K-pop production.
According to BBC, SEVENTEEN’s music video for their song “MAESTRO”includes a scene generated by artificial intelligence, and it is possible that the lyrics were also created using AI technology. The media outlet also reported that the group’s producer Woozi revealed to reporters that he had been “experimenting”with AI in his songwriting process.

Following the publication of the article, CARATs (SEVENTEEN’s fandom) immediately began criticizing BBC, alleging that the network was spreading false information.
The article published by BBC appears to have been influenced by the introduction of SEVENTEEN’s “MAESTRO”MV teaser, which stated that “a portion of the footage in this video was created using AI.”However, fans pointed out that the music video did not actually use AI and that the introduction was purely for the concept of humans pushing the boundaries of AI technology to showcase its negative impact.
In reference to the mention of using AI in songwriting, Woozi originally stated that he was experimenting with incorporating AI technology into his production practice to observe its advantages and limitations. Woozi never explicitly claimed to have used AI in creating “MAESTRO”. Fans believe that BBC misrepresented Woozi’s words and undermined his efforts as a producer.
CARATs are addressing BBC’s misleading article by writing posts to clarify the information.
