Caution Advised: Woman Loses Finger Due to Viral Cucumber Salad Trend

The current cucumber salad trend has rapidly gained popularity in 2024, causing a noticeable shortage of cucumbers and other related ingredients in grocery stores. However, one woman is sharing a grave cautionary tale about this craze that resulted in a severe injury—specifically, her finger being amputated.

Logan Moffitt, popularly known on TikTok as the ‘cucumber guy,’ has become a viral sensation with his inventive salad recipes. He boasts over 6.5 million followers and 277 million likes on the platform, inspiring countless viewers to recreate his cucumber-centric dishes featured in his videos.

Despite the enthusiasm surrounding the trend, one TikToker has experienced a serious mishap while trying to replicate Logan’s innovations.

TikToker Angie recounted her dramatic experience, explaining that things took a dangerous turn when she attempted to use a mandolin, a kitchen tool similar to what Logan employs in his content. This slicing device features a flat base equipped with a sharp blade, enabling users to cut vegetables rapidly.

Sadly, Angie ended up injuring herself severely in the process: “I completely took off the entire side of my pinky,” she declared. “They said they could not stitch it because it was so badly wounded that there was nothing that they could actually stitch together because the skin was completely gone.”

The situation deteriorated further, and she developed an infection due to the injury. “I started to have sharp, extreme pains going up my entire arm to where it felt like it was lightning going up my arm,” she shared.

Following another urgent care visit, she learned that the infection had reached the bone. Consequently, she reported losing all feeling in her finger and was referred to a hand specialist.

“All of this is happening, with thousands of dollars in medical bills, simply from using a cucumber-cutting device. You really don’t realize how essential your pinky is until it stops working. That’s where I find myself now,” she concluded.

Viewers expressed a mix of sympathy and critique, suggesting she should not have tied Logan’s name to her injury: “I truly sympathize with your experience, but it’s important to clarify it’s not ‘Logan’s cucumber cutting device’; it’s called a mandolin. That’s why there’s some argument in the comments.”

“I’m sorry, but calling a mandolin a ‘cucumber cutting device’ is quite bewildering,” another user commented.

One person pointed out that Logan has been proactive in warning his audience about the potential dangers of using a mandolin in his latest videos, stating: “I’ve noticed he’s been urging people to be cautious with the mandolin.”

In response, Angie acknowledged, “I didn’t notice that, and I regret not being more careful! This is what happens when I follow a two-minute video without researching how hazardous this tool can be and how many injuries have occurred due to it.”

The cucumber salad trend isn’t the first to spark debate on social media. We’ve compiled a list of some of the most controversial TikTok trends over the years.
