Fans had high expectations for chapter 169 of Chainsaw Man, anticipating the conclusion of Denji and his companions’ journey to the Sushishi restaurant. The issue was officially released on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, and while the group did finally sit down to enjoy a meal, the story did not progress as fans had hoped, particularly in regards to the impending fight between Denji and War Devil Yoru.
Similarly, the 169th chapter of Chainsaw Man does foreshadow a significant battle for Denji in the next issue, but it does not involve Yoru as many fans had anticipated. Instead, the chapter brings back Barem Bridge and reveals some thrilling updates about Nayuta, as well as unfortunate developments in their current predicament.
Chainsaw Man Chapter 169: Barem Bridge’s Control Devil Nayuta and Her Safety Teased
Chainsaw Man: Contemplation and action
Chainsaw Man chapter 169 opens with Denji’s group arriving at Sushishi and taking a seat at the bar. Denji observes the other customers, who are all enjoying their sushi and chatting happily. He can’t help but wonder if they have also gone through a similar experience like his encounter with Yoru/Asa Mitaka. He then confides in Pochita about the overwhelming amount of terrible events that have occurred, expressing a desire to escape death.
After admiring the seemingly never-ending flow of sushi before him, he reflects on his experience with Yoru/Asa. Although he acknowledges that it wasn’t the same as preparing it himself, he can’t deny the warm feeling it gave him. As he ponders his current state of happiness, Asa catches him blushing and gazing at her.
In chapter 169 of Chainsaw Man, Asa requests for Famine Devil Fami to wait outside as there is no suitable food for her. Although Fami responds, it is difficult to comprehend her speech as she is eating. Haruka Iseumi then expresses concern about whether it is acceptable for them to have a pleasant meal without Nail Fiend and Seigi Akoku, who are currently guarding their hide-out.
Iseumi notices that Nobana Higashiyama is not eating any sushi, explaining that he is unsure if he will have to pay for it. Iseumi finds this strange, but Nobana defends himself by saying that he is not as odd as Asa. He points out that despite losing an arm, Asa remains unchanged and he admits that he would be devastated for a week if he were to lose an arm.
In chapter 169 of Chainsaw Man, Nobana is joined by someone who compares humans to animals. This person is later identified as Barem Bridge, who points out that animals do not experience sadness when they lose a limb, but instead adapt to survive. Barem then recalls that Devils are not supposed to feel sadness either, which prompts Iseumi to recognize him.
Despite Nobana’s reluctance, Iseumi loudly proclaims that he is the second-in-command of the Chainsaw Man Church, causing Denji to take notice. Recognizing Barem, Denji gets up with chopsticks in hand and prepares to attack. However, he offers to bring Barem to Control Devil Nayuta if he agrees to remain quiet and sits down next to him.
In Chainsaw Man chapter 169, Denji reluctantly takes a seat next to Barem, who proceeds to give him tips on how to properly eat sushi. However, Denji interrupts with a serious question, asking Barem directly about Nayuta’s whereabouts. At first, Barem appears taken aback or hesitant to answer, but eventually admits that Public Safety is outside and has the building surrounded.
Barem informs them that once they leave the sushi restaurant, they will both be dismembered, much to the shock of Iseumi and Nobana. In addition, Barem promises Denji the chance to see Nayuta if he rescues them. Denji’s interest is immediately piqued, and he asks what he must do to save them. However, the issue concludes with Barem presenting Denji with a plate of egg sushi and instructing him to eat it first.
In summation
Despite Barem’s lack of direct confirmation regarding Nayuta’s status in Chainsaw Man chapter 169, it can be inferred that she is indeed alive. While there is a possibility that Fujimoto may surprise readers with Nayuta’s death, this seems unlikely at the time of writing as it would greatly impact Denji’s character development.
Despite the anticipation for a large action sequence featuring the titular hero, it seems that Fujimoto may end things before Denji gets a chance to fight. This is supported by Barem’s claim that Public Safety has Sushishi surrounded, which is highly likely at the time of writing this article.
