Chainsaw Man Chapter 178 Reveals the Crucial Role of Pochita’s Allies Against the Four Horsemen

Creator Tatsuki Fujimoto impressed fans with the thrilling events of Chainsaw Man chapter 178. The latest chapter unveiled the next intense phase of the clash between the Hero of Hell and a revived War Devil, Yoru. After having her arms severed, she resorted to utilizing gauntlets forged from the Tank Devil and Gun Devil, a strategy she had never anticipated.

In the chapter, it became clear that Pochita was struggling against this new enhancement. Yoru’s Gun Gauntlet blasted him away, leaving him incapacitated at a distance. This critical moment saw the Aging Devil intervene, presenting him with a dark proposition: to consume them for regeneration at the devastating cost of children dying across Japan.

Taking a broader perspective on the chapter, Pochita’s evident struggle highlighted the necessity of his allies in the battle against the Four Horsemen and Weapon Devils. This release sparked an intriguing theory within the fandom, shedding light on Chainsaw Man’s ability to return, albeit at a steep price.

Chainsaw Man Chapter 178 Highlights Pochita’s Need for Allies Against the Four Horsemen

In Chainsaw Man chapter 178, Pochita faced a crushing defeat at the hands of Yoru. Just when it seemed the Hero of Hell was about to finish off Asa Mitaka/Yoru, the War Devil unveiled her trump card, rendering him utterly unable to continue fighting. This scenario has given rise to a compelling theory circulating in the fandom.

Pochita, now incapacitated, may only have a chance at continuing if he accepts the Aging Devil’s malevolent offer to consume them for regeneration. This mirrors an earlier event in Part I when Pochita battled Makima. While he lost that fight, he managed to outmaneuver the Control Devil with Power’s assistance, showcasing Pochita’s need for support to prevail. This raises the question of how he managed to contend against the Four Horsemen and the Weapon Devils in the first place.

The straightforward answer lies in the support he received from his followers. Pochita’s unique trait is his resilience against death. By this logic, when he confronted his enemies in Hell, he had the backing of those who revered him, such as the Spider Devil, Blood Devil, Angel Devil, Violence Devil, and Shark Devil.

It’s uncertain whether he sought their assistance or if they willingly chose to aid him, but their support was undoubtedly significant. Similar to the encounters with Makima and Yoru, one of these allies likely provided Pochita with blood at a time when he suffered damage.

Reflecting on the battle in Hell, it’s plausible that these mentioned allies of Pochita made their way to Earth by sacrificing themselves for his sake, dying in the process. As they sequentially fell, Pochita found himself without assistance, leading him to retreat to Earth and adopt a weaker form for survival.

Additionally, Makima collected all of Pochita’s allies to demonstrate her superiority, thereby explaining her interest in recruiting the Angel Devil and viewing Power’s death as advantageous.

Moreover, the Angel Devil explicated to Aki Hayakawa that none of the reincarnated Devils retained any memories of their existence in Hell. The only resonating sound in their minds was that of a roaring chainsaw. This introduces a novel perspective: according to the series lore, Chainsaw Man is depicted as having slain the Devil in Hell (this is also illustrated on Earth when he devoured the Octopus Devil and Mouth Devil).

The theory concludes that the roaring chainsaw signifies something entirely different. Rather than Pochita exterminating Devils, it was actually them empowering him and revving his engine back to life so he could continue fighting.

Makima’s comments suggest this notion when she mentions that numerous Devils sacrificed themselves for Pochita, including those the Four Horsemen had never encountered before. Hence, the unmatched ability of Chainsaw Man to resurrect may sometimes hinge on the sacrifices made by those who hold him dear.
