The highly anticipated movie, Look Back, which is adapted from Tatsuki Fujimoto’s work, has finally been given a release date outside of Japan. This news has alleviated the biggest concern of fans.
With the popularity of Chainsaw Man, it was expected that a new film based on another manga by Tatsuki would attract a lot of attention. Interestingly, the upcoming adaptation will be based on a highly emotional and significantly less violent story.
Thus far, Look Back has received overwhelmingly positive responses, and it won’t be long before viewers worldwide will have the opportunity to watch it. The animated film is set to release in North America on Friday, October 4, 2024, with other regions likely to follow suit around the same time.
The fact that Look Back has been released in Japan will bring comfort to those who have been following the film. There were worries that it would only have a streaming release, as it is not a part of a well-known franchise.

In June, a Redditor who claimed to have watched Look Back in Japan mentioned that after a theatrical release for several weeks, the movie will likely be available on Amazon Prime in Japan a few months later. The production credits Amazon Studios/MGM, and there is a high possibility that the movie will also have a global release on Amazon Prime.
Upon investigation, we have been unable to find any proof of Amazon’s connection to Look Back. However, this is not uncommon as information gaps in anime productions are often present until they are released in English-speaking regions and the complete credits become widely available.
Regardless, GKids has secured a contract for the movie, ensuring it will have a theatrical release before transitioning to streaming. There is still a chance that Amazon will acquire the rights for home media, as they have previously obtained major films such as the Rebuild of Evangelion quadrilogy.
Currently, we can anticipate the release of Look Back in theaters in early October, but any potential issues are something to consider for the future. To stay informed about other significant premieres, be sure to check out our list of upcoming anime.
