On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the highly anticipated latest release of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s flagship manga series Chainsaw Man was met with much excitement. Fans eagerly awaited Denji’s next moves after his return, expecting a reunion with Kishibe and a separation from Asa Mitaka and his companions.
Despite their initial lack of success, Denji, with the help of Asa and his group, continued his search for Nayuta in chapter 164. Asa’s group was led to believe that Nayuta had passed away, but the endeavor did provide insight into Denji’s current mental state and his motivations.
Despite Denji’s worries, some observant Chainsaw Man fans have pointed out that a line of dialogue from chapter 164, spoken by War Devil Yoru, could potentially hint at Nayuta’s survival. Although nothing has been officially confirmed, this piece of evidence is quite solid and suggests that Nayuta will likely make a return to the series in the near future.
Chainsaw Man manga hints at Nayuta’s survival through the strength of abilities in chapter 164’s dialogue
In the first few pages of the newest chapter of Chainsaw Man, readers witnessed Denji urgently calling out for Nayuta and wondering where she could be. Yoru, the War Devil, reacted to this by questioning Nayuta’s identity and confidently stating that she would wake Denji up if he was still dreaming. She even reached for his starter cord while mentioning Nayuta’s name, showing that she had no previous knowledge of this person and believed her to be a figment of Denji’s imagination.
During Asa and Denji’s date at Denji’s house, Nayuta used her Control Devil abilities to manipulate their memories. As a result, both Yoru and Asa had no recollection of the events that occurred that day, which was later confirmed in the series.
Similarly, Yoru’s dialogue in the most recent chapter of the series confirms that she has not regained her memories of Nayuta, indicating that her abilities as the Control Devil are still functioning. This implies that Nayuta is also still alive, as indicated by the previously established parameters for the powers of the Control Devil.
At the conclusion of part 1, viewers witnessed the Control Devil Makima using her abilities to subjugate the Weapons Hybrids. This included members who reappeared in part 2, such as Quanxi, Barem Bridge, and Katana Man, who were no longer under her influence. In essence, Makima’s control over them ended when she was defeated by Denji and later reborn as Nayuta.
Similarly, the ongoing impact of Nayuta’s abilities on Yoru and Asa implies that she is still living and has not perished. Had she passed away, Yoru and Asa would have been freed from her “control”in accordance with the unspoken laws of the Control Devil’s powers.
Although this is all conjecture, it is founded on the rules and abilities that have been previously described and demonstrated throughout the series. It is possible that Fujimoto may be intentionally misleading fans about Nayuta’s status. Fans are eagerly anticipating the series’ return in mid-May and future chapters, hoping for confirmation on Nayuta’s true situation.
