Chainsaw Man: Possible Erasure of World Communication

On July 23, 2024, the highly anticipated chapter 172 of Chainsaw Man, titled “Bzzz! Boom! Chomp!”, was finally released. This chapter delved into the ferocious battles of the recently unleashed Hero of Hell against the Public Safety Department. Despite fans’ predictions of a lackluster fight from the new Special Division, they were quickly defeated by the enraged Hero of Hell.

The main focus of the chapter was the Hero of Hell’s mission to eliminate the Ear Devil and eradicate the concept of ears. This raised questions among fans as to why the Public Safety Department would entrust such a crucial task to someone who has the ability to erase devils and their very existence.

Although lacking ears may already have disastrous consequences in the manga, the situation could escalate if the Hero of Hell continues to strategically target devils.

Could Chainsaw Man Bring More Disaster Than the Death Devil?

In Chapter 172, the Hero of Hell devoured the Ear Devil, causing the complete disappearance of ears from the universe of this manga. This disappearance eliminated one of the crucial forms of communication in the narrative.

In this series, devils are bound to their names and the ideas they represent. If a devil dies in the human world, they will reappear in Hell, but if they die in Hell, they will reappear in the human world.

When Chainsaw Man consumes a devil, it erases the devil from existence and puts an end to its cycle of reincarnation. This also means that the concept embodied by the devil is completely eliminated, along with any memories associated with it.

Nuclear weapons, among other things such as AIDS, do not exist in the story anymore because the Hero of Hell devoured the demons associated with these ideas, erasing them from existence.

The Public Safety Department may continue to send additional devil hunter squads, potentially including devils such as the Eye Devil or the Tongue Devil. Should this pattern persist, the entire universe in which this story takes place could ultimately lose all forms of communication.

The Ear Devil has been devoured, resulting in the disappearance of all ears. Previous references to this event indicate that within a few upcoming chapters, all recollection of ears will be erased, along with the ability to hear and participate in conversations through speaking.

The War Devil had previously claimed that the Hero of Hell had the ability to regurgitate the concepts it had consumed, resulting in their return to existence. If the current plot unfolds in a way that leads to the Hero of Hell consuming multiple essential devils, it is likely that Fami and Yoru will play a role in prompting the Hero of Hell to expel all of the concepts and restore the world to its original state.

The removal of ears will undoubtedly have severe implications in the manga’s world, but the situation could escalate if powerful devils like the Finger Devil or the Fire Devil become targets of the Hero of Hell.

Despite the fact that the Public Safety Department reached its peak under Makima’s leadership, it is plausible that their decision to directly send powerful devils like the Ear Devil to the Hero of Hell was part of a calculated strategy.

The publication of Chainsaw Man manga has been paused after the release of chapter 172, and the next chapter, 173, is set to be available on August 6, 2024.
