The fifth episode of Plus-Sized Elf, titled The Empress of the Park and the Demonic Dinner, was made available at 12:00 am JST on Sunday, August 4, 2024. It premiered on HIDIVE and was later aired on channels such as TOKYO MX, BS11, and AT-X.

In the current episode, two additional characters are revealed, having previously concealed their true identities as humans in this world. The show takes a thrilling twist by playing with its structure, with a focus on Naoe, the sole human character, rather than any other supernatural creatures and their personal struggles.

The anime is adapted from a Japanese manga series created by Synecdoche. The series was first released on Wani Books’ Comic Gum website. A sequel is currently being published in Akita Shoten’s Dokodemo Young Champion magazine.

In the fifth episode of Plus-Sized Elf, Oga and his companions encounter a young girl named Kobo who insists on being paid for playing in her territory. Oga is immediately taken with her adorable appearance, as ogres are known to have a fondness for children. However, Kuroeda feels compelled to teach Kobo a lesson. Despite Kobo’s attack on Kuroeda, Oga easily overpowers her.

It is discovered that Kobo obtains candy from children at the park by making them trade it for more candy. She also kicks out those who are unable to pay. Kobo fabricates a story about being abandoned by her parents and starving, even using eyedrops to fake tears. However, Elfuda notices Kobo’s weight and points it out.

Upon becoming enraged, Kobo exposes her true identity as a sprite, appearing as a child despite being fully grown. She initiates a fight with the elf, but Naoe steps in and proposes that Kobo try reducing the fat on her face through exercises. Together, they all engage in tongue exercises and face massages. Surprisingly, after shedding some facial fat, Kobo becomes well-liked and receives willingly given candies from children.

In the fifth episode of Plus-Sized Elf, Naoe scolds Elfuda for her love of fries and resulting weight gain. However, he soon realizes that he too has gained some extra pounds. Determined to slim down, Naoe creates a plan which includes starting his day with a glass of water, maintaining a balanced diet, and regularly exercising. Despite his dedication, he notices the number on the scale continues to rise.

As the night falls, Naoe awakens to a lavish feast spread out before him. He soon realizes that a satyr has been preparing the food and using a hypnotic spell to feed him, causing him to indulge in his greedy desires.

Thankfully, Elfuda and Kuroeda, who had detected the enchantment beforehand, come to his aid. They successfully chase off the satyr and caution Naoe that it may come back, as satyrs often become deeply attached to their targets. In order to safeguard him, Elfuda, Kuroeda, Oga, Kobo, and other allies make the decision to remain at Naoe’s residence.

Plus-Sized Elf Episode 5 Review: A Refreshing Twist

While the first half of Plus-Sized Elf episode 5 may have a negative aspect, it mainly revolves around Miss Kobo’s character. Some viewers may find her to be an annoying brat with a loud personality, similar to characters such as Elfuda and Kuroeda. However, this repetition adds nothing new to the series, except for showcasing Oga’s more gentle side, which is a stark contrast to her tall and muscular physique.

Despite its slow start, the episode becomes increasingly captivating as it unfolds. The series has consistently found success with its straightforward premise of featuring different individuals and their weight loss transformations in each episode. However, Plus-Sized Elf episode 5 deviates from this typical format.

At the Smiley Boar, Naoe is the physical therapist who is always ready to assist others in their weight loss journey and promote healthier lifestyles. However, even he finds himself in need of some assistance. Naoe realizes he has gained a few extra pounds and turns to his friends for support in keeping the temptations at bay and burning off some calories.

Despite being initially annoying, this twist in the storyline adds a refreshing and intriguing element to the series, making it more captivating than its predecessors. The episode successfully maintains the viewers’ attention, with the enigmatic satyr standing out amongst the other fantastical creatures. Unlike Naoe and the rest of the group, she neither befriends them nor receives any weight loss advice. It is hoped that her story will be further explored in upcoming episodes.
