Many TikTok creators have expressed that they are unable to view certain videos because of the platform’s privacy settings for minors. However, is it possible to alter your age on TikTok?

In response to the mass ban of numerous underaged accounts, TikTok announced on January 13, 2021 that all accounts under the age of 16 would be automatically set to private as a default setting. This was an effort to reinforce the platform’s privacy measures.

How to Contact TikTok About Changing Your Age

To address any issues on TikTok, the app recommends using the ‘Report a Problem’ button within the app. In case you are unable to access the button, you can email infocontact@tiktok.com with valid proof of age. Acceptable forms of proof include government-issued documents such as a passport, driver’s license, or birth certificate.

To report an issue within the app, just follow these steps:

Open the TikTok app
Select Profile located at the bottom right of the home screen and then click on the three lines at the top-right corner to access the Settings and Privacy page.
Scroll down until you find the Support section, then tap on Report a Problem underneath it.
Select Account and Profile before tapping on Editing Profile.
Select Other and then click on the Need more help? option. This will take you to a feedback form where you can submit a text request to update an incorrect date of birth on your account.

Make a new TikTok account

If you have entered your age incorrectly and do not wish to deal with the inconvenience of reaching out to TikTok’s customer service for a correction, you can easily create a new TikTok account.

To log out of your current account, follow these steps:

Click the ‘Me’ tab
Tap the 3 dots at the top right
Scroll down and select Log Out
Next, you will need to adhere to the sign-up instructions in order to create a new account.

It is important to note once again that we strongly discourage attempting to deceive the system by falsifying your age. The privacy settings serve a purpose and despite any false information given, it will inevitably be discovered.
