Channing Tatum has at last broken his silence and shared his thoughts on his Gambit cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine through a heartfelt post on social media.
Channing Tatum, who is set to star in the highly anticipated thriller Blink Twice, has fulfilled a long-awaited opportunity to portray the beloved Marvel character Gambit in the crossover film Deadpool & Wolverine. This appearance marks the culmination of a 15-year journey for both Tatum and Gambit, and the actor expressed his deep emotional connection to the role in a post on X.
In the post, Tatum expresses his gratitude towards Ryan Reynolds for fighting on behalf of him and Gambit. He acknowledges that he will always be indebted to Reynolds, as he believes he won’t be able to repay him for what this opportunity means to him.
These pictures are almost 10 years apart to the day. I sat in the audience when Ryan Reynolds showed his first peek of Deadpool 1 to the world and I think I ran back stage right after and found him and I think I just hugged him and was like holy shit you did it man. It’s perfect.… pic.twitter.com/B5viY2f7nl

Despite initially missing out on the opportunity to play Gambit in the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Tatum’s desire to portray the character only grew stronger. He continued to campaign for the role for years, hoping for a chance to bring Gambit to life in a future project.
In 2015, there were plans for a solo Gambit film starring Tatum to be released alongside the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. Various directors, including Tatum, were attached to the project over the years, but it was ultimately cancelled in 2019 due to Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
Although the Gambit project had a talented team and a passionate lead actor, it was often mocked by fans. The character’s disappointing appearance in X-Men Origins had left a negative impression, and the decreasing quality of X-Men movies did not instill much confidence.
Despite the cancellation of Gambit, it proved to be a blessing in disguise as it resulted in the most memorable moment for Deadpool and Wolverine. Channing Tatum’s dedication and Ryan Reynold’s expertise in showcasing lesser-known X-Men characters was evident. Although the chances of Tatum’s solo Gambit film are slim, it is heartwarming to know that he not only got to portray the character but also received widespread love for his performance.
