Channing Tatum “prays to god” solo Gambit movie gets made

Channing Tatum remains hopeful that a standalone Gambit movie will come to fruition, citing the positive reception to his cameo appearances in Deadpool and Wolverine.

The recent Deadpool film was packed with unexpected and enjoyable appearances by fan-favorite characters, such as Wesley Snipes as Blade and Jennifer Garner as Elektra, as well as Henry Cavill’s cameo as a version of Wolverine.

However, the character that received the most attention was Gambit, as Channing Tatum finally took on the role of the beloved character in a live-action film.

Tatum was initially in the running for the role of Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009, but ultimately lost the opportunity to Taylor Kitsch. However, in 2014, he officially joined the project for a standalone movie and was officially announced at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2015.

Despite the involvement of directors such as Doug Liman and Gore Verbinski, the movie faced delays and missed release dates. Eventually, after Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, it was ultimately cancelled in 2020.

Ever since Gambit’s humorous appearances in Deadpool & Wolverine, there has been a renewed excitement for the character, leading to hope for a possible standalone film.

At the premiere of his new movie Blink Twice, Tatum expressed his hopes to Variety by saying, “I sure hope so… From your mouth to God’s ears. Please write it into existence, my friend.”

Despite being released just a few weeks ago, Deadpool 3 is quickly approaching the $1 billion mark, prompting Tatum to reiterate his desire for a Gambit movie. In an interview with Variety, he stated, “I’ve been expressing my interest for the past decade. It ultimately lies in the hands of Bob Iger and Kevin Feige at Disney and Marvel, and I can only hope for the best.”

Tatum will star as a deceitful billionaire with his own private island in the upcoming film Blink Twice, set to be released on August 23, 2024.

Similar to Gambit, there are superhero films such as Batgirl and Roger Corman’s Fantastic Four that you may never get the chance to watch.
