The highly anticipated One Piece chapter 1114, written by Eiichiro Oda, is scheduled to be released on May 13, 2024. As spoilers have revealed, this chapter is expected to showcase Oda’s masterful storytelling, with one of the most anticipated reveals being information about the Void Century.
The chapter featured the Gorosei in a state of panic as they desperately tried to come up with a solution to halt Vegapunk’s livestream. Despite using the Mother Flame, their attempts were unsuccessful as Vegapunk continued to divulge all of his secrets without hesitation.
Despite the apparent age of his message, Vegapunk’s prediction of rising sea levels from the previous day captivated fans. Additionally, he disclosed that Joyboy was the original pirate, suggesting that Joyboy was aware of the flooding that Vegapunk had mentioned. There is also speculation that Roger was aware of the impending disaster, which may have prompted him to initiate the Great Pirate Era.

One Piece: The Connection Between Vegapunk’s Flood Reveal and Roger’s Initiation of the Great Pirate Era
The spoilers for One Piece chapter 1114 disclosed that the chapter began with a glimpse of various islands within the Grand Line where individuals gathered to hear Vegapunk’s message. Additionally, the chapter divulged information about Impel Down, where Doflamingo mocked the prison’s current state as it was submerged underwater.
After delivering his message, Dr. Vegapunk’s prediction of an earthquake that had happened an hour ago served as evidence that he was serious about revealing the truth of the world to the world.
The attention then turned to the Five Elders, with Saint Saturn taking on the task of eliminating all Transponder Snails in the room using the submerged Mother Flame. Despite his efforts to sneak past the Straw Hats and enter Mother Flame, his attempts were in vain as Vegapunk’s message persisted.
After that, Vegapunk disclosed his wrongdoings, including his experimentation with using the Sun as a power source and his investigation of the Void Century. He further explained that his research allowed him to predict the ongoing natural disasters, such as earthquakes and sea level changes.
During the reveal, Vegapunk introduced a warrior from the Void Century with a body as elastic as the Sun God Nika and Monkey D Luffy. Meanwhile, Luffy was engaged in battle with Warcury. The name of this warrior was Joyboy, who Vegapunk disclosed to be the world’s inaugural pirate.
From the spoilers of One Piece chapter 1114, it can be inferred that Vegapunk’s knowledge of the rising sea levels stemmed from his studies on the Void Century. This aligns with the popular fan theory that Roger and his crew discovered information about the Void Century upon reaching Laugh Tale, where the One Piece is said to be located.
Therefore, it is possible that Roger was aware of the flooding and intentionally revealed the grand treasure on Laugh Tale moments before his death. This event ultimately sparked the Great Pirate Era. It is plausible that Roger foresaw the eventual drowning of the Grand Line, which was also predicted by Vegapunk, and wanted to prepare the world by encouraging the use of ships.
Furthermore, the occupation of the Roger Pirates served as evidence that they were aware of the flooding, as they accompanied their captain to Laugh Tale. Rayleigh’s expertise as a shipcoater enabled them to navigate underwater. Crocus took refuge inside a whale (Laboon) to withstand the extensive flooding.
Despite their initial plans to reach Laugh Tale, Shanks and Buggy ultimately chose to remain behind due to Buggy’s fever. However, their reactions upon Roger’s return further support the possibility that they had indeed visited Laugh Tale. After their journey, Roger confided in Shanks and whatever he said caused the latter to shed tears, suggesting that he was deeply affected by the knowledge of the world’s destruction. Additionally, the fact that the Red Pirates were able to swim indicated that they did not possess devil fruits.
Buggy’s response to consuming the Chop-Chop devil fruit was peculiar, as he displayed a deep fear of obtaining a devil fruit. This could be attributed to his knowledge of the potential flooding event, as shared by Shanks. It is possible that Buggy became anxious about his own fate and saw Roger’s initiation of the Great Pirate Era as a means to prevent the majority of the world from succumbing to the flood.
