How to Use the Command Console in Dragon Age 2
For newcomers exploring the Dragon Age series ahead of the upcoming release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, using the command console may be unfamiliar. Follow this step-by-step guide to set it up.
Step 1: Create a Shortcut for the Game
Begin by making a shortcut to the game’s executable file:
- Locate the game’s executable. Navigate to your Dragon Age 2 installation folder. By default, it can be found at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Dragon Age 2\bin_ship\DragonAge2.exe
- Create a shortcut. Right-click on the
DragonAge2.exe
file and select Create Shortcut. You can move this shortcut to your desktop, Start Menu, or any desired location for easy access. - Enable the console. Right-click the new shortcut and go to Properties. In the Target field, add
-enabledeveloperconsole
at the end, after the quotation marks. The target field should now appear as:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Dragon Age 2\bin_ship\DragonAge2.exe"-enabledeveloperconsole
- Apply and close. Click Apply, then OK to save your changes.
Step 2: Open the Console In-Game
Now that the developer console is enabled, you can use it:
- Start the game. Always launch the game using the shortcut with the
-enabledeveloperconsole
added. - Activate the console. While in-game, press the
~
key on your keyboard to open the console. Note that you won’t see the console appear, nor will you see what you’re typing. This is normal. - Enter commands. Type in your desired command and press Enter. While there won’t be confirmation of the command’s success, the effects are typically immediate.
