On October 4th, Chef Ahn Yoo-sung shared insights from the making of the Netflix series “Culinary Class Wars” during a live stream on his YouTube channel, “White Spoon Ahn Yoo-sung.”
In the broadcast, he remarked, “It is challenging to organize a cooking competition,” highlighting the current downturn in the restaurant industry.
Chef Ahn expressed his wish, stating, “I hope that our cooking program serves as a catalyst and revitalizes the restaurant sector since it’s a tough time for restaurant operators.”
Reflecting on episodes 8-10 of “Culinary Class Wars,” Ahn discussed a restaurant mission where he transitioned from Choi Hyun-suk’s team to create a new team. He admitted, “The deficits of the later team were substantial.” In response to his team dynamics, he noted, “They referred to me as a father,” mentioning that he felt as though he was being “bullied”in a fatherly role at work. He observed, “The younger participants seem to harbor a lot of anger,” admitting he had strong relationships with his team but encountered numerous concerns regarding the rules.
Addressing the potential for viewer misconceptions due to editing, Ahn commented on the “evil editing” that could arise in the show. He voiced his disappointment at not being able to fully showcase his talent as the “Sushi King.”
Debate surfaced concerning the fairness of the competition’s rules. Discussing the disparity in team sizes and time constraints, Chef Ahn Yoo-sung expressed, “I hope there will be a bit more fairness. It was a very successful and authentic entertainment program, and the production team executed their roles well,” adding, “It makes me a bit sad to admit that. However, the viewers’ affection outweighed that, transforming it into a blessing in disguise.”
