In recent news, multiple Chinese fan communities of aespa have been voicing their concerns to SM Entertainment and even declaring their plans to boycott the girl group’s upcoming album on Weibo, China’s biggest social media platform.
Specifically, on July 7, aespa is scheduled to perform at Fukuoka Arena in Japan. This date holds significance as a “black day”for Chinese individuals, as it is a day of remembrance for the Sino-Japanese war. This has caused some Chinese fans to feel that the concert is disrespectful towards them, despite their immense support for aespa through the purchase of millions of physical albums.
In addition, the Chinese fan bases are also showing concern for aespa member Ningning, who faces a difficult situation as a Chinese member performing on this occasion.
Additionally, fans are also urging SM Entertainment to reconsider the venues for aespa’s concert in Hong Kong and Macau. They argue that the current venues, which can only hold 5,000 and 2,800 fans respectively, are too small for the girl group’s immense popularity in China.
