On July 7, 1937, the Second Sino-Japanese War began, pitting China against Japan. The conflict lasted for more than eight years, ultimately resulting in China’s triumph when Japanese forces surrendered in Mainland China on September 2, 1945. This meant that China regained all territories previously lost to Japan.

In honor of those who fought for China’s independence, July 7 is commemorated as a “black day”and observed as a day of respect. It is a tradition for artists to refrain from holding any entertainment events on this day.

Despite Ningning’s Chinese nationality, many are worried about her due to her busy schedule with aespa. People believe she will be obligated to perform on that day, which could result in backlash from Chinese netizens and potentially harm her.

Some individuals had the belief that Ningning would struggle with her performance in Japan that day, being aware of the significance of what her country fought for many years ago.

Furthermore, fans are outraged by what they perceive as a blatant disregard for their Chinese counterparts. Chinese fans have a reputation for purchasing large quantities of albums with the support of their idols’ fan bases, resulting in millions of contributions to album sales. As a result, certain fan bases are considering discontinuing their bulk buying for aespa’s upcoming comeback.

Several comments were written,

  • “What the hell? There will be a concert in Japan on July 7? If their Chinese member participates, she will be hated on so badly.”
  • “Does SM Entertainment hate Ningning this much?”
  • “Does SM Entertainment not see Ningning as a human being?”
  • “Guys, let’s email SM.”
  • “The majority of album sales are from Chinese fans, but these companies always disrespect us.”
  • “Poor Shining…”
  • “Is SM doing this intentionally?”

Despite aespa’s high popularity in China, fans are disappointed with the limited capacity of the Hong Kong and Macau venues, which can only hold 5,000 and 2,800 guests respectively. As a result, fans are urging SM Entertainment to consider changing the venues for these shows.
