The conference for the highly anticipated movie “Tarot”took place on June 12th at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall, located in the district of Yongsan, Seoul.
At the event, Director Choi Byung-gil was accompanied by actors Cho Yeo-jeong, Ko Kyu-pil, and Dex.
Director Choi described his work by stating that the film’s depiction of a mother, a husband, and a young individual with a determined desire to live a solitary life reflected different facets of life. He also shared that he had personally faced numerous challenges that had shattered his will due to fate. However, as he grew older, he learned to come to terms with fate and occasionally faced defeat. He approached ‘Tarot’ with this perspective, viewing it as a documentary and treating it as his own film.
This made Director Choi recall his personal life. He had previously made a public statement about his split from Seo Yu-ri, whom he had been married to for 5 years. The news was also confirmed by Seo Yu-ri herself through an Instagram post.
During an interview with Xports, Director Choi confirmed that he and Seo Yu-ri are currently going through divorce mediation. He stated that the process has been ongoing for about a month and mentioned that Seo Yu-ri is requesting a significant amount of assets.
“He admitted that his financial situation was not good, and as a result, he had to sell his house and leave. He was currently unable to afford a rental deposit, so he was residing in his office. Additionally, the previous year he had to pay off a deposit for an apartment that was registered under Seo Yu-ri’s name, which ultimately led to him accumulating debt.”
He also asserted, “The divorce was caused by our contrasting personalities. Our differences made it extremely challenging.”
Seo Yu-ri’s statement contradicts this. During an appearance on Channel A’s “Dr. Oh’s Golden Clinic,”she stated, “Director Choi did not desire children while I strongly desired to have them.”
During the conference, Director Choi, who portrayed Cho Yeo-jeong’s ex-husband in the movie, playfully remarked, “I portrayed a sleazy ex-husband and I believe I did justice to the character. I successfully fulfilled my duties as an actor and music director. Feel free to call me ‘trash’ anytime.”
