Starfield’s eagerly awaited Shattered Space DLC has arrived, featuring a quest that allows players to delve into the House Va’ruun as they explore the sacred city of Dazra and uncover the faction’s lore. However, during this quest, you’ll face a challenging decision regarding the Effigies.
Starfield is known for offering intricate choices throughout its adventures. Questions like who to tranquilize in The Duel quest, which weapon to utilize, or what ship to acquire are just a few. Now, there’s an additional choice to consider: Which Effigy to select in the Serpents Path quest, and how will that affect your gameplay?

How to Complete the Serpents Path Quest
Step One: Blow Out the Candle
Start by proceeding through the tunnels until you encounter a Shrine.
Completing these tasks is optional, but highly recommended.
Inaza will inform you about the faction and request that you blow out the candle. Doing so will unlock the door to your right.
Step Two: Cast Aside Your Burdens
Next, go through the door and continue along the path until you reach another shrine that asks you to cast aside your burdens. Unfortunately, this means you must sacrifice an item of your choosing. We suggest selecting a weapon you no longer need.
After this sacrifice, feel free to move on to the next Shrine.
Step Three: Make a Leap of Faith
This task is a bit more challenging, as it requires a leap of faith. Head to the end of the ledge to the right of the Shrine and jump.
Despite the name, you’ll need to jump across rather than down.
Don’t dive into the water below; instead, leap across to the ledge directly opposite. Once you’ve made it across, continue through the door to the next Shrine, located within a large cave.
Step Four: Meditate
While inside the large cave, make sure to collect any items you find, unless you prefer to avoid inventory clutter.
This may hurt a bit, but your character will recover.
Continue along the path until you arrive at the next Shrine. Remember not to approach too closely, as there is corrosive liquid present. After Inaza shares the story, you’ll be instructed to “meditate” in the water, which may drain some health but should be manageable.
Step Five: A Sacrifice
After sacrificing a weapon, you’ll need to make yet another sacrifice when you arrive at the next Shrine.
The Shrine is located a bit far, but don’t worry about getting too close; focus instead on the metallic doors to the bottom left.
Your objective here is to eliminate the baby Groat to unlock the door above the cage.
Step Six: Choose Your Effigy
There are four Effigies to choose from.
Beyond the doors lies the final ritual where you must choose two Effigies to place on an altar. You will have four options, allowing you to select the ones that resonate with you.
After choosing, place the Effigies on the two altars beside the main Shrine, then proceed through the doors to speak with Inaza. This character will bestow your new title and direct you to consult Malibor Dul’Kemf in the High Council.
Step Seven: Speak to the High Council
Simply take the elevator up to the Mourning Ship Cockpit. You will find three members of the High Council who will explain the fate of the House and assign you your next quest.
With that, you will have successfully completed the Serpents Path quest in Starfield’s Shattered Space DLC.
Which Effigy Should You Choose?
In the end, the choice of Effigy in Starfield Shattered Space doesn’t significantly affect gameplay; it merely alters the title you receive.
Your choice of Effigies will determine your title.
You will have four Effigies to choose from during the Serpents Path questline: Devotion, Obedience, Strength, and Perseverance.
