Chris Sutton makes TikTok jibe to Rangers star after sparking Old Firm brawl

Chris Sutton makes TikTok jibe to Rangers star after sparking Old Firm brawl

During the latest Old Firm derby between Rangers and Celtic, Sky Sports pundit Chris Sutton criticized Rangers player Todd Cantwell for his involvement in the unsavory scenes that occurred at full-time.

Despite falling behind twice, Rangers managed to secure a 3-3 draw against their Glasgow rivals at home, keeping the Scottish Premiership title race within their control.

Celtic took an early 2-0 lead at Ibrox thanks to goals from Daizen Maeda and Matt O’Riley, but Rangers fought back to equalize with goals from James Tavernier and Abdallah Sima.

Adam Idah’s goal gave Celtic a 3-2 lead, but Rabbi Matondo’s stoppage time equalizer meant that the two teams ended the match in a draw.

However, at full-time, tempers flared when Cantwell shoved Celtic’s captain, Calum McGregor. Other players from both teams quickly intervened to separate the two.

While providing co-commentary for Sky Sports, ex-Celtic player Sutton strongly criticized former Norwich City midfielder Cantwell, remarking on a late confrontation between the two players. Sutton questioned Cantwell’s actions, stating that his push was unnecessary and foolish. He then advised Cantwell to let his performance on the field speak for itself rather than resorting to tactics like promoting himself on TikTok.

Celtic supporters thoroughly enjoyed the dig on social media, while followers of Rangers and neutral viewers were unimpressed with Sutton’s perceived lack of impartiality throughout the match.

Sutton and Cantwell have had previous disagreements, with Sutton publicly criticizing Cantwell in October. This was in response to Cantwell’s call-out of the pundit for his negative comments about the Rangers player.

In reply, Sutton remarked, “You know, he’s taken another shot at it this week. What I don’t comprehend, and truly don’t, is the common saying in football of ‘let your game do the talking’.”

In my opinion, he seems to be completely lost in his own world at the moment. It’s quite frustrating because despite having an average career so far, he still holds himself in very high regard.

“In reality, he is more renowned for his social media presence, particularly on TikTok, than for his achievements on the field. If I were in his position, I would want to acknowledge this and work towards changing it. It is important for him to prioritize his football and strive towards improvement.”

The draw resulted in Celtic maintaining their position at the top of the league, with a one-point lead over Rangers. However, Rangers have the opportunity to take charge of the title race by defeating Dundee in their upcoming game on Wednesday.
