Toji Fushiguro, Nanami Kento, and 10 other Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Deaths in Chronological Order
Rico Amanai
Despite being the first character to meet their end in season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen, Riko Amanai played a crucial role in the plot. As the Star Plasma Vessel for Master Tengen, she held great importance in the merger and her death forced Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto to take a new path. The two were responsible for protecting her, but unfortunately, she was murdered by Toji Fushiguro, a hired mercenary of the Time Vessel Association.
Despite Satoru’s attempt to stop him, Toji successfully killed Riko in front of a defeated Geto, who was soon after overcome by Satoru. However, the consequences of this failed mission had a lasting effect on Geto, leading him down a path of becoming a jujutsu terrorist and causing chaos for many years.
Misato Kuroi
Despite her minor role in the story, Misato is a character that may have been forgotten by many fans of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2. However, as the sorcerer responsible for overseeing Riko Amanai, she faced numerous challenges in order to ensure Riko’s safety. This included dealing with the mercenaries hired by Toji Fushiguro during the Hidden Inventory arc.
Despite being assigned to assassinate Misato, one of the mercenaries was unable to complete the task as she was unexpectedly taken away. This led Toji to speculate that she may have died, as he stated to Geto with uncertainty. However, it wasn’t until chapter 236 of the manga, when Satoru Gojo met his demise in a battle against Ryomen Sukuna, that the series finally confirmed Misato’s passing. In this chapter, she was seen in the afterlife alongside Riko.
Toji Fushiguro
Toji is a key antagonist in the Hidden Inventory arc and is highly regarded as one of the series’ most beloved characters due to his innate charm, backstory, and impressive combat skills despite lacking Cursed Energy. A former member of the disgraced Zen’in clan, Toji became a renowned mercenary known as the “Sorcerer Killer”and was hired by the Time Vessel Association to assassinate Riko Amanai.
In the end, Satoru Gojo defeated Toji in their final battle of the arc, resulting in significant consequences for the story. Toji’s actions, including his murder of Riko Amanai, ultimately led to Suguru Geto’s descent into madness. Furthermore, Toji entrusted Gojo with the responsibility of looking after his son, Megumi Fushiguro.
Yu Haibara
One of the most heart-wrenching deaths in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 was that of Yu Haibara’s. It is evident that the character was created with the sole purpose of dying, making it a cynical and bitter loss. As a Jujutsu sorcerer and a close companion of Nanami Kento, Yu Haibara had undertaken numerous missions during their time as students. Unfortunately, on a mission they embarked on together, he met his demise.
Despite her cheerful nature, Haibara’s death had a profound effect on Suguru Geto and Nanami as they saw it as yet another example of good people losing their lives in the never-ending fight against Curses. Therefore, Haibara’s passing played a significant role in shaping the characters of Geto and Nanami throughout the series.
Kokichi Muta/Mechamaru
In Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, Mechamaru was responsible for initiating the Shibuya Incident arc. It was later discovered that he was a spy working for Kenjaku. Despite being a student sorcerer from Kyoto, he sided with the villain in order to use Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration to heal his injuries and regain the ability to walk and live a normal life.
Despite having a change of heart, Kokichi ultimately chose to face Mahito in a life-or-death battle, ultimately sacrificing his own life. However, he did manage to share crucial information with Yuji Itadori regarding Kenjaku’s plot to seal Satoru Gojo in Shibuya, which proved to be beneficial in the arc.
Hanami: The Traditional Japanese Cherry Blossom Viewing Tradition
Hanami, along with Choso, Jogo, and Mahito, was assigned by Kenjaku to delay Satoru Gojo in the Shibuya subway in order to seal him. As a result, they had to engage in a fierce battle with the formidable sorcerer as the plan went into effect. This provided Gojo with an opportunity to demonstrate his immense strength, resulting in Hanami being the only fatality in the confrontation.
In Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, Gojo’s overpowering of Hanami and pinning him against the wall resulted in one of the most brutal deaths. Despite Yuji Itadori and Aoi Todo’s previous efforts to defeat him in the first season, Gojo effortlessly took him down.
Dagon
In the first season of the anime, Dagon was introduced as one of Kenjaku’s Curses. However, it wasn’t until season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen that he finally engaged in a showdown with Naobito Zen’in, Maki Zen’in, Nanami Kento, and Megumi Fushiguro. During this battle, Dagon’s immense power was showcased as he easily overwhelmed them with his Domain Expansion, leaving them with no choice but to try and escape.
After being resurrected by one of Kenjaku’s allies, Toji Fushiguro swiftly took control of the situation and defeated Dagon, who had previously inflicted serious injuries on the main characters. However, Toji, a disgraced member of the Zen’in clan, ultimately ended Dagon’s life.
Naobito Zen’in
Despite his brief appearance in the series, Naobito Zen’in proved to be a formidable ally in the Shibuya Incident arc. He joined forces with the sorcerers to fight against Kenjaku and his Curses, and was immediately thrust into the intense battle with Dagon. Despite his impressive combat skills, Naobito, like his comrades, was unable to withstand Dagon’s overwhelming power and ultimately lost an arm in the process.
Despite still being alive at the time, Naobito ultimately met his demise when Jogo arrived and set him ablaze. This led many anime-only viewers to believe he had perished in that moment. However, it was eventually disclosed that he passed away while under the care of the Zen’in clan’s medical team, a fact that will be revealed in the upcoming third season of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Game
Despite facing fierce opposition from Dagon, Naobito, Nanami, and Maki were able to survive the intense battle. Meanwhile, Toji managed to separate Megumi from the group, leaving Jogo to target Yuji Itadori and force him to consume ten of Ryomen Sukuna’s fingers. As a result, Sukuna was able to take over Yuji’s body and engage in a highly anticipated showdown against Jogo, making it one of the most memorable battles of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2.
Despite Jogo using all of his power to battle Sukuna, the latter proved to be on a superior level and ultimately delivered the final blow with his signature Fire Arrow. This resulted in Jogo’s defeat and Sukuna offering a few words of respect, solidifying it as one of the most significant moments for the character.
Nanami Kento
Nanami Kento was among the sorcerers who participated in the Shibuya Incident arc and was severely burned by Jogo during the fight against Dagon. As he made his way through the Shibuya subway, he managed to defeat several weak Curses despite his deteriorating condition.
Despite Yuji’s shock, Mahito arrived and swiftly took his life with a single touch right in front of him. This tragic event reminded Nanami of his friend, Yu Haibara, and he urged Yuji to “take it from here.”This heartbreaking death in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 was one of the most devastating moments.
Nobara Kugisaki
As Yuji Itadori battled Mahito in the aftermath of Nanami’s murder, Nobara Kugisaki joined the fight in an attempt to assist her friend. Despite their efforts to corner Mahito, he was able to use his Idle Transfiguration technique to touch Nobara’s eye, ultimately leading to her demise and devastating Yuji.
This particular moment in season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen was deemed shocking by anime-only viewers. However, there are some fans who hold onto the belief that Nobara may still be alive, as her death was never officially confirmed in the series.
It will be done
Despite causing immense pain by taking the lives of two major and beloved characters, Nanami Kento and Nobara Kugisaki, and stripping Aoi Todo of his Cursed Technique, Mahito made a lasting impression during the Shibuya Incident arc. However, the ultimate satisfaction for the audience came when Yuji Itadori finally managed to defeat him.
Despite Yuji’s best efforts, Mahito did not meet his end at that moment, as it was instead Kenjaku who appeared and devoured him through the Cursed Technique possessed by Suguru Geto’s body. It was Kenjaku’s intention for Yuji to weaken Mahito so that he could consume him and obtain his Idle Transfiguration, ultimately allowing him to initiate the Culling Games.
Final thoughts
The deaths of characters in season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen played a significant role in the series’ rise to popularity in 2023 and heightened the intensity of the plot. Certain deaths, like those of Nobara and Nanami, have since become iconic moments in the series, along with the epic showdown between Jogo and Sukuna.
