On the 28th, the video “Story of Failing SM Entertainment Audition (Hyoyeon x Chungha)”was uploaded by the YouTube channel ‘Hyo’s Level UP’.
During the episode, Hyo-yeon brought up the fact that Chungha had made the decision to pursue a career as a singer and had fearlessly gone to multiple auditions. Chungha then revealed that she had auditioned for the three biggest agencies: JYP, YG, and SM.
Chungha remembered, “I tried out for JYP, YG, and SM. JYP was the first to accept me, while YG was in the final stages. Right before the final stage at YG, I received an acceptance from JYP. I had to go where I was accepted, so I chose the place that responded quickly. However, at that time, I was not familiar with SM’s audition process. I noticed many posters for Girls’ Generation’s ‘Tell Me Your Wish’ and thought, ‘Oh, Girls’ Generation is having a concert?’ It turned out to be an open audition schedule. I couldn’t help but wonder, ‘Should I give it a try?’ It was more out of curiosity
Chungha shared, “I recall attending the audition right before heading back to the boarding school for the weekend. I was in a group of ten people each time and fortunately, they asked me to stay. I sang and was then asked to improvise a dance. It was my first attempt and I remember saying, ‘I am not sure how to dance.’”
After the party, she reminisced, “Britney Spears’ song was playing and I can’t even recall how I danced. I also belted out a pop song that I was familiar with. Afterwards, I returned to the boarding school where I had to surrender my phone to the dormitory supervisor. Despite feeling vulnerable, I was content with not receiving a call back.”
