Civilization 6 is a complex strategy game that can be tricky to set up, even for players unfamiliar with the standard and advanced options available for customization. Once gamers become familiar with these settings, they can take their gaming experience to the next level by customizing their own games.

In the Game Options menu, players can customize how the game plays. Before starting each game, it’s always a good idea to visit this menu to select the animations and hints you’d like to see while playing.

Game settings are configured on the “Game” tab. Gamers can enable or disable Quick Combat, Fast Travel, and Auto-Complete Turn, as well as change the frequency of autosaves and the time of day they would like to play. The game is also highly customizable; players who are new to the series can choose whether their game is Civilization 6, freshly purchased DLC, or newly purchased DLC.

The only setting you can change in the Application tab is Time Saver. In this menu, players can turn off the intro movie and it will automatically skip every time they open the game.

There are eight difficulty levels: Settler, Leader, Warlord, Prince, King, Emperor, Immortal and Deity. There are 30 types of cards to choose from; each map has its own characteristics, and different civilizations will be better if played on different maps.

The game offers five different game speeds. The “Advanced Settings” option is easy to miss, but it allows players to customize the game for themselves. However, by skipping this step, the player will be less surprised when they start the game, as there are maps and gameplay elements that are expected from the start.

In the advanced settings menu, players can choose which leaders they would like to play against; they can disable the option to prevent duplication of civilizations and leaders; they can choose a leader individually or randomly from multiple pools.
