Two of the most beloved Gen 1 Pokemon have been transformed into undead creatures in a recent fanart that has been circulating online.
Despite the existence of Ghost-type creatures in the Pokemon world, it is uncommon to encounter ‘Mons that are connected to bones other than those in the Cubone evolutionary lineage.
Despite this, fans continue to create their own unique and edgy Pokemon with designs that are darker and more violent than the official ‘mons. This has been a tradition among fans since the days of Pokemon Red & Blue.
When discussing Gen 1 Pokemon, there are two undead creatures that have gained popularity in fanart. These necromantic versions of Magikarp and Gyarados are based on the original 151 creatures.
This piece of art, shared by Just-Drawing-Mons on the Pokemon subreddit, showcases skeletal versions of the beloved Water-type fish and iconic duo from Pokemon Red & Blue. For more creations featuring Pokemon with unique types, be sure to visit their Instagram page.

Both Pokemon possess white energy orbs in their eyes, while their flesh has decayed and taken on a blue hue. These unique features would make for fantastic Water/Ghost-type regional variants of Magikarp and Gyarados, although the concept may be too somber for the world of Pokemon.
As mentioned by users in the thread, it is ironic that Gyarados is depicted as a skeleton in this artwork. Its initial name was intended to be Skullkraken, but it was ultimately changed for undisclosed reasons prior to its release.
The fanbase has made some outstanding contributions through their fanworks, particularly in the form of reimaginings of classic Pokemon. These creative pieces provide a glimpse into the world that could have been, especially when considering the unconventional designs of some Pokemon that were ultimately not chosen.
