HMD has announced their plans to revamp the classic Nokia 3210 with a modern twist. This iconic device, which was first introduced in 1999 as the first mass-market phone with an internal antenna, is set to make a comeback.
Despite not reaching the same level of fame as the Nokia 3310, which is still remembered for its durability and has been the subject of many jokes and videos, Nokia’s basic phones, particularly the Nokia 3210, were incredibly popular in the early 2000s. Now, HMD is looking to revive the 25-year-old 3210 with a contemporary redesign and updated features.
In case you were unaware, HMD is a Finnish company that currently holds ownership of the Nokia phone business. This acquisition took place in 2016, with Microsoft having previously purchased Nokia in 2013.
At an event in Kenya, HMD announced the latest HMD Pulse smartphone and Nokia 225 4G, along with teasing the Nokia 3310. According to a teaser shared by Nokiamob, the Nokia Icon has been reconstructed to combine a modern redesign with a retro interface, paying tribute to the original Nokia 3210 design and providing a nostalgic experience.
The design of the new phone incorporates elements from the classic model, with some modern enhancements. The teaser image reveals a blue phone with a front that bears resemblance to the original 3210. The overall shape also appears to be similar to that of the Nokia 6310, although it is not yet confirmed if the sizes will be identical.
The updated 3310 will also include contemporary features, such as long-lasting battery, Bluetooth, 4G capability, and other modern specifications. However, similar to its predecessor, the new model will also retain the classic Snake game.
HMD has not disclosed the cost of the device or its release date.
