Cloud9 has committed to donating more than $1,000 to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in light of recent controversy surrounding G2 Esports’ posting of a suicide joke.

Some also noted that G2 had shared the photo during Mental Health Awareness Month and nearly a year after a well-known community member’s death by suicide.
Prior to facing G2 in the first round of the VCT Americas playoffs, Cloud9 has decided to address the organization by donating money to a suicide prevention charity. In a recent announcement, the org shared its commitment to contribute $1,000 to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month.
For each round it wins against G2 during the match, Cloud9 will donate $100 to the charity. Depending on the outcome, C9 may also contribute an extra $2,600 to the charity.

The donation pledge is a clear message aimed at G2, who have chosen to keep their post up despite community pressure to remove it.
The Valorant community has rallied behind the initiative, with members commending the announcement.

Aside from social media, C9 and G2 are currently competing for a chance to qualify for VCT Masters Shanghai. As of 2024, neither team has participated in an international VCT event.
