The beloved characters from the original Call of Duty Zombies may be making a comeback in COD 2025, and the wait isn’t expected to be too long.
When Call of Duty: Zombies first captured the hearts of gamers in COD: World At War, players had access to four fundamental maps: Nacht Der Untoten, Shi No Numa, Verruckt, and Der Riese. The goal was to survive as many rounds as possible, with Easter eggs primarily limited to musical tracks.
This iconic squad—Tank Dempsey, Nikolai, Takeo, and Richtofen—has embarked on countless adventures since those early days, facing a multitude of Easter eggs, powerful bosses, and an array of new wonder weapons.
Over the years, this original group occasionally stepped aside for other special characters featured in maps like Mob of the Dead, Buried, and Tranzit. While Black Ops 6 introduced fresh characters in place of the originals, players have embraced the new dynamics while still longing for the nostalgic stories of the original team to reappear.
Reports from Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming suggest that these original characters are indeed set to return in COD 2025. According to Henderson, participants who previewed the Zombies mode prior to the release of Black Ops 6 noted that the original crew would feature in a revamped version, differing from their appearances in both the Ultimis and Primis storylines.
The original Zombies team has experienced an extensive journey throughout the Call of Duty franchise.
Additionally, there is speculation about a new map inspired by Tranzit, featuring some form of transportation system to help players navigate the terrain. This could range from the Tranzit bus to Der Riese teleporters, or possibly a cable car system.
Moreover, multiple new maps are reportedly set to be introduced over the coming year; initially, there were talks of six, but updates on any potential expansions or reductions in that number remain unconfirmed since the early testing.
However, the return of the original squad may divide the player base, given that their narratives were thought to be concluded. Comments from some gamers reflect this sentiment: “This completely ruins the original story, wow. Amazing,” one player remarked. “Sounds really strange,” another added.
