CoD Fans Livid After Leak Claims Black Ops 6 Will Be on Last-Gen Consoles

Players of Call of Duty who were anticipating the series to shift its focus to the PS5 and Xbox Series X were surprised when a leaked Black Ops 6 pre-order listing revealed that the PS4 was also included.

Activision’s annual releases of CoD are among the most highly anticipated in the video game industry. However, similar to yearly sports games, the series has yet to break away from using older generation hardware.

The user on Reddit shared a screenshot of a GameStop WeU page featuring Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which revealed that the game would be released on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 4 for $69.99 each.

According to pre-order information from GameStop, the user confirmed that BO6 will still be released on last-gen consoles, in case it was not already apparent.

As the rumor about releasing games on older hardware continued to circulate on social media, fans expressed their concerns and were clearly dissatisfied. Many were convinced that this decision would only hinder the gaming experience on newer, more powerful consoles.

One person reminisced, “Remember how terrible the graphics were on Black Ops 3 for PS3? Those were the days.”

“Another person vehemently rejected the idea, stating that it was terrible and should only apply to current generation products, leaving the previous generation behind.”

SoaR, a gaming organization, also playfully teased the game by sharing a low-resolution SpongeBob video with the accompanying caption, “My friends and I having a blast playing Black Ops 6 on our PS4s.”

Some users also expressed their dissatisfaction with the alleged cost of $69.99. In fact, one player stated that it was unreasonable to ask for the same amount of money for a subpar version of the game.

Another person slammed, “It’s insane to spend $70 on last generation.”

Despite not receiving official confirmation from Activision, it is highly expected that Black Ops 6 will also be released on the PS4. This follows the trend of all recent CoD games being made available on the previous PlayStation console, since the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
