CoD players fear “tiny” Area 99 map will be Warzone’s Shipment

The official unveiling of Warzone’s new Area 99 map at CoD Next has players concerned about its size, with some drawing comparisons to the small-scale Shipment map.

Along with the release of Black Ops 6 Season 1, Treyarch introduces a new battleground that is their version of a Resurgence map. This map delves into the beginnings of the well-known Nuketown, which was first featured in Black Ops in 2010. Area 99 is the designated nuclear testing location where Nuketown was developed, featuring notable points of interest such as Mannequin Assembly and Test Site.

Although players are excited to uncover the origins of one of Call of Duty’s well-known locations, there have been some concerns expressed about the new map. The main worry seems to be its size, with several comments on a Reddit post by ‘Masteroogway7207’ expressing concerns that it may not be large enough.

One player remarked, “It seems quite small and doesn’t have much space, but I hope I’m mistaken.”Another player then chimed in, “I’ve always been curious about how Warzone would play on Shipment.”

Despite the fan’s concerns about the size and layout resembling a multiplayer map, they also expressed their willingness to keep an open mind until they play it. They hope that the inclusion of larger buildings will add verticality and depth to the map, similar to that of a Black Ops 6 map.

During the CoD Next stream, the developers confirmed that Area 99 is approximately the same size as Rebirth Island, which holds the title for being the smallest map in Warzone’s history.

Despite the size, players had additional concerns about the appearance and setting of the map. In response to a post by CharlieIntel on X, some criticized it for being “bland and dusty”with a “washed”color palette. Early footage further led some to describe it as “trash.”

“Ugh, forget this map. I’m exhausted from being stuck in the desert. I don’t know anyone who would choose it over a diverse terrain with a mix of urban areas,”said another comment.

We will need to wait until Season 1, when Warzone integrates with Black Ops 6, to experience how Area 99 truly feels in action. However, for those of you who are hesitant about the new map, there are still exciting updates to come, such as Urzikstan Ranked Play and the return of Verdansk.
