In a recent viral moment, Anthony ‘Shotzzy’ Cuevas-Castro, a two-time Call of Duty (COD) world champion, showcased his challenges while using a mouse and keyboard in Black Ops 6. This incident has reignited discussions surrounding the game’s aim assist mechanics, often labeled as “broken” by many within the community.
Traditionally, Call of Duty has catered primarily to console gamers. However, since the introduction of cross-play in 2019, there has been a growing discourse regarding the effectiveness of controller aim assist against players employing keyboard and mouse setups.
Shotzzy, who is regarded as one of the elite controller players in the COD scene and plays for OpTic Texas in the CDL, is renowned for his pinpoint accuracy and exceptional movement skills while gaming. Yet, even a player of his caliber faced difficulties recently, when a clip from his January 4 Twitch stream depicted him only managing to secure a single kill during a match on mouse and keyboard.
Analyzing Shotzzy’s Gameplay: A Reflection on Aim Assist

In the tweeted clip, Shotzzy enters a match on Hacienda, quickly noticing his control scheme has switched to mouse and keyboard. Rather than reverting back to his controller, he opts to continue, claiming, “This is going to be legit proof why game knowledge [is more important] over everything.” As the video progresses, viewers witness his mounting frustration after missing several kills he normally would secure effortlessly, lamenting, “I feel like I’ve only got one kill, I’m not even trolling.”
While some spectators found humor in the situation, others were less amused. YouTuber Mikaveli highlighted this clip as evidence of the need for a comprehensive overhaul of aim assist mechanics within the game.
This is the best controller player in COD but on MnK. He says “This is going to be legit proof that game knowledge over everything.” Proceeds to get 1 kill the entire match. There needs to be a full rework on how aim assist functions in games https://t.co/ahuKgAm7qE

Others supported the sentiment that aim assist is excessively potent, with comments such as “Turns out soft aimbots are pretty useful after all” and “Rotational aim assist in heavy tracking games is somewhat absurd.” The prevailing consensus among some players is that aim assist significantly influences gameplay dynamics in FPS titles, particularly within the Call of Duty franchise.
Despite the ongoing debates, Shotzzy’s experience in a single match may not conclusively signify a pressing need for aim assist adjustments. There were fans who defended his performance, remarking that he is “completely unfamiliar with MnK, and his sensitivity might be too high.” Mikaveli himself noted that Shotzzy allegedly lacks familiarity with the mouse-and-keyboard setup, suggesting that he might excel if he invested time mastering it.
With the next Call of Duty League Minor tournament set to occur on January 10, it appears Shotzzy would be better off returning to his controller for improved gameplay.
