Coffeezilla has issued a response following the revelation that he is being sued for defamation by Logan Paul. This comes after Coffeezilla accused CryptoZoo of being a “scam”.
Stephen Findeisen, a popular YouTuber known as “Coffeezilla”, made several videos in an effort to assist buyers in getting their money back after claiming that the Prime co-founder’s CryptoZoo NFT project was his largest scam.
Despite Paul’s announcement of a $1.3 million refund program, Findeisen clarified that it would only reimburse 12% of losses. Furthermore, in order to receive the refund, individuals would be required to drop the entire case.
On June 27, 2024, Paul reached a breaking point and filed a 47-page lawsuit against the YouTuber for defamation, with the intention of seeking $75,000 in compensatory damages. After more than a month, Findeisen has finally responded.
On August 5, Findeisen uploaded a 20-minute video on his YouTube channel where he talked about the lawsuit and accused Paul of attempting to avoid responsibility. He further expressed his belief that Paul had not gained any lessons from CryptoZoo, except for the skill of silencing individuals.
Despite this, Findeisen still referred to the influencer-turned-wrestler as “the biggest enemy”of his own lawsuit, citing previous videos in which Paul had praised the YouTuber’s investigative journalism and intentions and stating, “Defamation requires a demonstration of actual malice and a reckless disregard for the truth.”
According to Findeisen’s theory, the reason why Paul did not sue him for the original deep dive on CryptoZoo was because he instead made two videos and tweeted about advocating for the victims of the “scam”to receive refunds.
According to Findeisen, in order to seek damages, one must prove that someone has damaged their reputation. He also noted that despite Paul’s continued success with Prime, he has become even wealthier. Additionally, Findeisen stated that Paul’s reputation as a scammer was solidified prior to his videos.
Despite this, Findeisen acknowledged that he had made “one regrettable error”which resulted in having to battle Paul in court using his own money instead of Media Insurance. He appealed to viewers for their support and shared that he was selling merchandise with 100% of profits being allocated towards covering the legal expenses.
Findeisen’s response also questioned why Paul had waited over a year to file the lawsuit, considering the accused individual had already issued an apology for their actions.
“According to Findeisen, he had featured Logan Paul in a teaser for a video six days prior to the lawsuit. Additionally, he had reached out to Logan for comment 21 hours before the lawsuit was filed. Findeisen informed Logan that he had 24 hours to respond, but Logan chose to sue him just three hours before the deadline.”
The first email, which announced the lawsuit, supposedly had a tone of “threat”and suggested that Findeisen would be held “responsible”if he persisted in “covering this new development”regarding Liquid Marketplace. This made the YouTuber suspect that the intention was not to win the case, but to silence him.
Despite acknowledging the possibility of it being a mere coincidence, Findeisen firmly believed otherwise. He asserted that Paul’s actions, such as attempting to use the law as a weapon and suing him for simply doing his job and inquiring about refunds, were not a means to silence him.
