During a conversation about his well-known quotes from Mass Effect, Meer noted that there is a particular phrase that he is frequently asked to recite, but it isn’t originally from the game. Nonetheless, it has become closely linked to Commander Shepherd and, by extension, to him.

He commented, “I frequently get requests to say and autograph a line that doesn’t appear in the games at all, which is ‘We’ll bang, okay?’ This catchphrase has been associated with Shepherd largely due to the creative work of YouTuber ManSlayer.”

The YouTuber, known as mans1ay3r, gained fame by remixing and organizing dialogue from various games, making it appear as if characters were delivering lines they never actually voiced—often with great comedic impact.

His humorous, often NSFW Gamerpoop videos initially showcased titles like Oblivion and Skyrim, but he later focused on Mass Effect, especially featuring Commander Shepherd’s male version.

While Commander Shepherd is usually portrayed as noble and altruistic, ManSlayer’s edits depicted him as a character who relentlessly pursued the crew of the Normandy with inappropriate remarks. However, in these edits, many other characters also displayed similarly questionable behaviors.
