Company Allegedly Coerces Employees to Support CEO’s Daughter on ‘I-LAND 2’

There is a dispute surrounding a company-wide announcement urging employees to support the CEO’s daughter as she competes in the girl group audition program, “I-LAND 2.”

On May 9, 2024, multiple online communities circulated reports that a company had released a statement encouraging its employees to support a contestant on Mnet’s audition program “I-LAND 2: N/a”in order to aid her debut.

The notice, addressed to all employees, informed them that Ms. A, the daughter of our dealership’s CEO, Mr. OOO, would be participating in the audition program “I-LAND 2″on Mnet. Employees were encouraged to show their support for her debut by participating in the audition voting, with the reminder to vote once a day.

The notice included explicit instructions for voting from May 3 to May 12 and withheld the name of the contestant’s daughter in the post. As of now, it remains uncertain which participant is referenced in the memorandum.

Additionally, employees of the company have reported playing the theme song of “I-LAND 2″at high volume in both the office and pantry, allegedly as a means of promoting the CEO’s daughter. Some employees have expressed feeling pressured to vote rather than it being a voluntary act of kindness.

The release of this internal memo sparked allegations of “misuse of authority”from internet users. Although it is not explicitly mandatory for staff members to vote for the participant, it is believed by some that they may feel compelled to do so in order to advance their careers.

Some individuals felt that the CEO’s desire for their employees to vote for their daughter implied some sort of exchange. Some made lighthearted comments about receiving bonuses, while others suggested snacks or heartfelt handwritten notes.

Several comments stated,

  • “Isn’t this an abuse of power?”
  • “Is this something that warrants an urgent notice to all employees?”
  • “Wouldn’t there be a scandal if she debuted after this?”
  • “I can’t tell if this is promotions or coercion.”
  • “They should have told employees they would get 200% bonuses if she debuted. If they said that, I’d vote for her.”
  • “If they are the type of company that treats their employees well on the regular, I would happily vote for her.”
  • “Wow, I’d hate that.”
  • “If they are going to ask employees to do something like this, then the CEO should give out handwritten letters to show how sincere they are. This is an abuse of power to ask their employees to do this because it’s not part of their job.”
  • “They are doing the girl more harm than good.”

In addition, the creators of “I-LAND 2″have emphasized the importance of fairness in the voting system. During a televised event on April 18, they reiterated that the counting and announcement of results are overseen by the reputable external organization Sam-il PwC, in order to prevent any interference from the production team. Our goal is to produce a program that is of high quality and integrity.

“I-LAND 2″is a Mnet audition program created through a collaboration between CJ ENM and renowned K-pop producer Teddy. The show showcases 24 trainees from WAKEONE, an entertainment agency with the goal of debuting a 12-member girl group.
