To overcome the numerous challenges posed by termites in Empire of the Ants, it is essential to familiarize yourself with the various Legions at your disposal and learn how to effectively utilize them. This comprehensive guide will provide insights into each Legion’s capabilities, upgrades, and strategic applications in your quest for dominance.
Upgrading Legions in Empire of the Ants
Although each nest can associate with only one Legion at any given time, it is possible to maintain multiple legions of the same type across the map. For instance, you may have several Warrior or Gunner legions operating simultaneously.
Worker Legions
- Upgrade Costs:
- Tier 1: 20 Food | 2 Chambers
- Tier 2: 40 Food | 2 Chambers
- Tier 3: 60 Food | 2 Chambers
Worker legions excel at transporting Wood and Food back to your nest, but they also possess impressive melee capabilities. They are effective against Gunner legions while struggling against Warriors. When not engaged in resource transport, utilize their strengths to flank enemy Gunner legions.
Warrior Legions
- Upgrade Costs:
- Tier 1: 20 Food
- Tier 2: 40 Food
- Tier 3: 60 Food
Warrior legions serve as attackers against enemy nests and advancing forces. Best positioned on the frontlines alongside Super Predators, they are strong against Worker legions but vulnerable to Gunner legions. Upgrading them to the Elite Warrior tier boosts their combat prowess considerably.
Gunner Legions
- Upgrade Costs:
- Tier 1: 20 Food | 2 Chambers
- Tier 2: 40 Food | 2 Chambers
- Tier 3: 60 Food | 2 Chambers
Gunner legions function as ranged units that provide long-distance support from behind the front lines. They are ideally kept away from melee combat, excelling against Warriors but weak against Workers, making strategic positioning vital.
Support Legions
- Upgrade Costs:
- Tier 1: 20 Food | 1 Chamber
Support legions mainly offer regenerative capabilities to nearby legions and do not engage in combat. Given their vulnerability to all legion types, they must be carefully placed to avoid being overwhelmed.
Limited to one per map, Support legions cannot be upgraded but can be restructured after defeat. Depending on the mission, they may represent Aphids, a Snail, or a Rhino Beetle.
Super Predator Legions
- Upgrade Costs:
- Tier 1: 50 Food | 3 Chambers
The Super Predator legion specializes in offensive strategies, exhibiting versatility against all types of legions. These robust units— whether Dor Beetles or Rose Chafers— are vital assets in battle, yet only one can be deployed per map.
Comprehensive Legions Guide – Upgrades & Unlocks
During strategic missions in Empire of the Ants, you will encounter several allied nests that require upgrades and Legion assignments for successful outcomes. Each Legion caters to specific roles, whether it be for offense against enemy nests or protection.
Legions form one of the five primary categories of nest upgrades (illustrated above), and selecting a particular category at each nest provides five Legion options to choose from:
- Workers
- Warriors
- Gunners
- Aphids
- Super Predators
Each Legion option is classified into three tiers, with their availability depending on the current tier of your nests. To enhance the tier of allied nests, you must first unlock the ‘Chemical Laboratory’ (Tier 1) under the Economy category. Subsequently, the ‘Chemical Library’ (Tier 2) unlocks access to Elite tier upgrades for all Legions.
Higher tier legions possess elevated stats, which are crucial for facing equally formidable opposing legions. Deploying a legion that is outmatched may result in disbandment. You can identify a legion’s tier via the circles atop its health bar; one circle indicates Tier 1, while three circles denote an Elite, Tier 3 status.
Each legion requires a designated Food cost that escalates with tier progression, alongside a minimum requirement of two chambers in the nest. Upon selection, there is a development time that must elapse before the legion is usable.
To expedite the process, select the appropriate legion icon on your screen and utilize more Food to hasten its readiness. Be mindful, as this can quickly deplete your resources.
Each nest can only house one legion at a time, so to manage multiple legions, create them across different nests. Additionally, ensure the ‘Multitude’ (Tier 2) upgrade is unlocked to expand the maximum number of legions you can command. The ‘Swarm’ (Tier 3) upgrade offers further expansion of your legion capacity.
Your legions are represented by circular icons on the battlefield, whereas opposing legions are denoted by diamond icons.
If a Legion falls in battle, it will temporarily disband, requiring a brief recovery time before it can be reactivated. You can expedite this reforming process using Food. The ‘Nursery’ (Tier 2) upgrade reduces the food cost for recovery by 30%, making it advantageous to unlock for challenging missions.
When conducting operations on maps divided by hazardous water, note that legions from nests on one side cannot traverse the water. Instead, you will need to establish a new legion across the waterway to address threats there.
Lastly, to swap out the assigned legion at a nest, you can opt to ‘Destroy’ the current legion by pressing and holding the corresponding button in the upgrade menu or when targeting the nest from a distance.
