Complete Guide to All Legions and Upgrades in Empire of the Ants

If you aim to conquer the challenges posed by warring termites in Empire of the Ants, mastering the various legions at your disposal is vital. This guide unveils the intricacies of each legion type, their roles, and how to effectively upgrade them to dominate the battlefield.

Upgrading Legions in Empire of the Ants

In Empire of the Ants, each nest can host only one legion at a time; however, you can deploy several of the same legion type throughout the map. For example, you can strategically place multiple Warrior or Gunner legions if desired.

Legion Types and Their Functions

  • Upgrade Costs:
    • Tier 1: 20 x Food | 2 Chambers
    • Tier 2: 40 x Food | 2 Chambers
    • Tier 3: 60 x Food | 2 Chambers

Worker legions excel at collecting resources like wood and food for their nests. They are versatile melee fighters, strong against Gunner legions but vulnerable to Warrior legions. When not engaged in resource transport, they are best deployed to flank enemy Gunners.

In strategic missions, you will often encounter allied nests requiring upgrades and specific legions to secure victories. Each legion plays a distinct role in strategy, whether for attacking or defending.

Legions fall within one of five categories of nest upgrades:

  • Workers
  • Warriors
  • Gunners
  • Aphids
  • Super Predators

These legions are divided into three tiers, and their availability depends on your nests’ current tier. To enhance your allied nests, unlock the ‘Chemical Laboratory’ (Tier 1) under the Economy category. Advancing to the ‘Chemical Library’ (Tier 2) upgrade unlocks all enhancements, including the powerful Elite versions.

It’s essential to develop high-tier legions to compete against similarly leveled adversaries. Recognize your legion’s tier by checking the circles above its health bar; one circle indicates a Tier 1 legion, while three circles signify a Tier 3 Elite legion.

When creating a legion, they require a specific Food cost, which increases with the tier. Additionally, most legions need at least two chambers available in the nest. The construction process typically takes several minutes, but you can expedite this using additional food resources—although this can deplete your supplies quickly, so use prudently.

Remember, a nest can have only one legion at a time. If you wish to increase your total legions, create one at each nest. To command more legions, ensure you’ve obtained the ‘Multitude’ (Tier 2) upgrade, which allows an additional legion. The ‘Swarm’ (Tier 3) upgrade further enhances this capacity.

Your legions are represented by circle symbols, while enemy legions appear as diamonds on the map.

In the event a legion is defeated, it will temporarily disband and require time to re-form. You can use food to hasten this recovery process. For those engaged in challenging missions, consider the ‘Nursery’ (Tier 2) upgrade to reduce the recovery costs by 30%, benefiting all legions.

Lastly, be cautious during missions where allied nests are separated by hazardous areas, like water bodies. Legions from one side cannot cross to assist those on the other; thus, you must build a legion on that side when needed.

If you wish to change a legion assigned to a nest, hold the appropriate button to ‘Destroy’ the current legion through the upgrade menu, allowing you to create a new one.
