In “Avowed, ”players can enhance their gameplay experience by activating the Totem of Defiance found within each of the game’s four regions. These totems offer valuable passive bonuses, but players must first locate and assemble several scattered pieces. In total, there are seven pieces of the Totem Of Defiance scattered across the second area, Emerald Stair. Players have the freedom to explore and collect these pieces in any order they choose upon entering the region.

Once all seven pieces are gathered, players must assemble them at any Party Camp, placing them upon the rock adjacent to the fire. Completing this assembly activates all passive bonuses associated with the fragments. Here’s where to find each piece:

1. Idol of Violent Rebellion

The Idol of Violent Rebellion can be found at the Ranger Headquarters, situated in the eastern part of Emerald Stair. You will locate it northeast of the Fior Southern Gate Beacon. To acquire the piece, navigate to the side of the tower and use visible barrels to climb up until you reach the very top where the piece awaits.

2. Sacrificial Dagger

The Sacrificial Dagger can be found in the Abandoned Farms area, located north of Fior mes Ivèrno. Search behind the second building from the right and you’ll notice a note pinned to the wall, with the piece securing it in place.

3. Idol of Covert Plots

For the Idol of Covert Plots, head to the Grim Wetlands in the northwest section of Emerald Stair. Use the Plateau Junction Beacon for fast travel and progress north until you reach an abandoned house. Enter through the roof by dropping down into the altar to claim your prize.

4. Totem Base

The Totem Base is situated at the Shrine to Skaen, in the western area of Emerald Stair. Fast travel to the Plateau Junction Beacon and head southwest to discover a rugged hillside with climbable edges. At the summit, you will find the Totem Base resting upon its own altar.

5. Obsidian Prayer Beads

To acquire the Obsidian Prayer Beads, venture into The Delemgan Glade located in western Emerald Stair. Cross the hybrid tree-manmade bridge and continue on until you reach a circular arena. Follow the right incline leading to a large tree that pierces through the structure.

Climb this horizontal tree and navigate the rocky path to find the piece at the far end of the area.

6. Idol of Secret Hatred

The Idol of Secret Hatred is hidden within the Ancient Grotto, situated in the southwest of Emerald Stair. Enter this secluded cave and proceed along the path until you reach a larger chamber with multiple routes.

Descend via the stairs and leap over the poisonous water below, utilizing various obstacles to avoid harm. In the larger room, choose the left passage indicated by a green light to retrieve the piece next to a skeleton at the end of the path.

7. Effigy Necklace

The Effigy Necklace can be found at Naku Tedek, on the island of the same name in the southwest region of Emerald Stair. Locate the cave entrance near the merchants right in the center of the island, adjacent to the Ancient Grotto.

Players should note that progress past this point is contingent upon completing the Ancient Soil main quest mission. During this quest, a companion will unveil a secret entry by a large Adra statue that leads further into the cave.

Proceed down the spiral staircase, turning left at the locked door. Utilizing an electric spell or grenade will open the next room, which features another horizontal tree extending over a pool of water. Use frost magic or a grenade to solidify a path across the water, then climb the tree to retrieve the piece waiting on the platform above.
