Upgrading your rations in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is crucial for both enhancing your gameplay experience and unlocking the Suture Self trophy/achievement. With improved rations, you gain access to additional healing items, making your journey through the game significantly easier.

How to Fully Upgrade Rations in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
To successfully unlock the Suture Self trophy, you will need to complete the following key tasks: build both the Tea Room and Zashiki in your hideout, along with finishing the Feast For Thought side quest. These elements are interlinked and essential for maximizing your rations.
Throughout the Feast for Thought quest, you will steadily increase the ration capacity for characters Naoe and Yasuke. Moreover, constructing the Tea Room and Zashiki will enhance the efficiency of each ration, increasing healing by 20% for every building compared to your starting point.
It’s important to note that these tasks are not immediately accessible. Follow the steps below to unlock each component effectively.
Unlocking the Tea Room
The first step to unlocking the Tea Room for Suture Self involves completing the Tea Ceremony questline during the campaign. Following this, initiate the Tea Bowls for Rikyu quest.
Once you reach the ‘People of Yamashiro’ objective board, you will find the quest available through Tea Master Sen no Rikyu—who previously taught Naoe about the art of tea ceremonies.
In this mission, you are tasked with locating various tea bowls for Rikyu, and successfully finding these will reward you with the option to construct the Tea Room. Interestingly, many players, including ourselves, found that we could unlock the Tea Room simply by handing over one tea bowl already in our inventory, bypassing the need to complete the entire quest.
Should you not have a bowl on hand, head over to the Ornament Vendor located in the northwest section of Sakai, adjacent to the Port, where you can purchase the Intricate Tea Bowl Collection for 125 Mon.
Unlocking the Zashiki
The Zashiki building becomes available after completing the side quest entitled The Iron Hand Guild, which connects back to a prior mission. Engage with Imai Sokun, who will provide insights related to his father’s tea ceremony, to initiate this quest.
Upon proceeding with this side quest, you’ll have access to a new objective board labeled The Iron Hand Guild. Fortunately, it’s not necessary to finish the entire questline to unlock the Zashiki; merely completing the Merchant Tamao task located at the top right of the board is adequate.
During this mission, you will need to defeat Tamao, but doing so will grant immediate access to the Zashiki, regardless of your progress with the other quests in the Iron Hand Guild.
Unlocking Feast for Thought
The Feast for Thought side quest is a late-game scenario that becomes available after you encounter an NPC named Hong during the main campaign. This quest appears within the People of Wakasa objective board and involves locating 16 local dishes.
These dishes are typically obtained through Food Vendor icons on the map. Unlike standard vendors, these are limited-time merchants found in various settlements, each offering a food-based quest item.
Interestingly, you can begin working on the Feast for Thought quest even before meeting Hong, as the Food Vendors are accessible from early in the game.
It’s important to note that not every Food Vendor will increase your ration capacity—some will simply provide quest items. Regardless, you will accumulate dishes that contribute to the quest, which you can utilize when you finally unlock Feast for Thought.
If you’ve already established the Tea Room and Zashiki in your hideout, continue collecting dishes from Food Vendors until you successfully unlock the Suture Self trophy.
