World of Warcraft is on the verge of celebrating its two-decade milestone as a live-service game, an impressive feat that has cemented its status as the most beloved MMO worldwide. To commemorate this special occasion, the developers will introduce an extensive array of engaging content for players to explore. Additionally, the Warcraft franchise will celebrate its 30th anniversary alongside WoW’s 20th. Starting October 23, players can log in to experience a vast event filled with activities across the game’s original continents.
As anticipated with a WoW celebration, there will be a new currency to acquire, along with various rewards to spend it on. It’s important to note that all these items will disappear once the event concludes on January 7, 2025.
With so much to delve into, here is our comprehensive guide to the World of Warcraft 20th Anniversary Celebration.
Activities for WoW 20th Anniversary
Upon the event’s launch, players at Level 10 and above will be given the quest titled “Another Timely Invitation,” leading them to the Caverns of Time to kick off the festivities. This will initiate a series of exclusive, one-time quests centered around the special activities of the Anniversary event.
Blackrock Depths Raid
The Blackrock Depths raid will be a highlight for players seeking a challenge. This raid instance will include eight boss fights and offer significant difficulty, with Normal and Heroic modes available for organized groups, as well as the option to use the Raid Finder feature.
Classic Timewalking
In an exciting blend of the Classic Era and Retail WoW, players in the latter will have the chance to engage in Timewalking runs through the game’s original dungeons. Locations such as Zul’Farrak, Deadmines, both wings of Dire Maul, and Stratholme will be featured, each offering brand-new rewards for completing the runs successfully.
World Bosses
Several legendary World Bosses from the game’s history are making a comeback, gathering at the celebration site in Tanaris. Players can look forward to challenging the likes of the Sha of Anger, Archavon the Stonewatcher, Azuregos, Doomwalker, the Dragons of Nightmare, and Lord Kazzak, all of which will provide extra rewards upon their defeat.
Codex of Chromie
The new Codex of Chromie scenario will see players deal with creatures from the past that have appeared in the present. Tasked with returning them, players must venture to Silithus in this instanced event designed for 10-20 participants. The only requirement is to have reached Level 15 to join in.
Guest Relations Mystery
Among the more distinctive features of the 20th Anniversary is a weekly quest to help Alyx arrange events for guests. This ongoing mystery will incentivize players to return weekly to complete the quest and gain rewards.
Korrak’s Revenge Battleground
For those who enjoy PvP, the classic battleground Korrak’s Revenge will make a triumphant return, functioning similarly to Alterac Valley Classic. Unique rewards await dedicated players, including exclusive faction-locked mounts available through completing related quests.
Rewards and Collectibles for WoW 20th Anniversary
One of the standout rewards for players will be the highly anticipated return of the iconic Tier 2 armor sets. These sets have been enhanced for WoW in 2024, featuring high-resolution textures for those interested in transmogrification. Players can obtain these by collecting Bronze Celebration Tokens, earned through participating in various event activities.
Once players acquire their first set, subsequent sets will be available at a reduced cost, making it easier to gather everything before the event concludes (assuming they invest the time). Classes introduced after the original Tier 2 sets debuted will also have their own sets to earn, so players who are Demon Hunters, Monks, or Evokers need not worry.
Blizzard staff who have been with the company for a certain timeframe will receive special rewards in honor of their service. Players can get a glimpse of this with several exclusive rewards, including the Coldflame Tempest mount and in-game appearances modeled after the crown, sword, and shield awarded to employees.
Furthermore, a variety of returning Anniversary rewards can be acquired with the Bronze currency from Storekeeper Reginald at the Celebration Pavilion. The rewards disclosed so far include:
- Core Hound Chain: Unlocks the Core Hound mount.
- Obsidian Worldbreaker: Unlocks the Obsidian Worldbreaker mount.
- Lil’Nefarian: Unlocks the Lil’ Nefarian pet.
- Molten Corgi: Unlocks the Molten Corgi pet.
- Onyxian Whelpling: Unlocks the Onyxian Whelpling pet.
- Hatespark the Tiny: Unlocks the Hatespark the Tiny pet.
- Baby Blizzard Bear: Unlocks the Baby Blizzard Bear pet.
That sums up everything regarding the 20th Anniversary event. Stay tuned as we will update this guide with new information as it becomes available.
