Complete List of Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds

The most enjoyable aspect of any Monster Hunter game is, without a doubt, the Monsters. Here is a compilation of all the Large Monsters that have been confirmed for Monster Hunter Wilds thus far.

Ever since its announcement at The Game Awards 2023, fans of the Monster Hunter franchise have eagerly been anticipating the release of the sixth mainline game, Monster Hunter Wilds. We can’t wait to hunt down and fashion new creatures into fashionable headwear.

Thanks to the May 2024 PlayStation State of Play, we were not only presented with news, but also a wealth of new content. The viewers were pleasantly surprised by the brand-new Monster Hunter Wilds trailer, which showcased exciting features such as weapon-swapping, and the subsequent trailer from Gamescom 2024 revealed new settings and NPC companions.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the update were the additions of new mechanics, characters, and Monsters. This guide will provide a comprehensive overview of all the Large Monsters that have been unveiled for Monster Hunter Wilds thus far.

Every confirmed Large Monster in Monster Hunter Wilds

Currently, the list of confirmed Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds is rather limited. While it is still early in the development process, there are only six Large Monsters that have been named and will be the main targets for hunts.

You can be confident that Capcom has a well-documented track record of gradually unveiling new hunting targets in the build-up to a Monster Hunter release. We will make sure to keep this article updated as they are revealed.

Doshaguma

Despite being an early-game hunt, Doshaguma may seem like a harmless fuzzball, but it’s actually a nightmare-inducing creature. According to Capcom, these fanged beasts are known for their ruggedness and territorial nature, making them quite aggressive in disposition.

Based on the trailer, it’s safe to say that the description is an understatement. These large furry creatures move in groups and it’s hard to imagine what would happen if you were faced with more than one at once.

The main objective of the hunters featured in the recently released footage appeared to be to isolate a larger Doshaguma from its group so that they could safely hunt it. This strategy could potentially prove to be crucial in defeating them in the game.

The Windward Plains, where they reside, can vary between a barren desert and a thriving grassland, depending on the weather. During harsher weather, Doshaguma becomes even more aggressive and determined to secure the scarce resources.

Catacabra

Although we are aware that Chatacabra is a hybrid of a crocodile and a gorilla, we can’t help but wonder if it possesses any cuteness. We are quite fond of it and would even go as far as saying we would sacrifice ourselves for it, although we may be in the minority with this opinion.

Honestly, if we weren’t convinced that the armor made from their scales would be incredible, we might not bother hunting them at all. Don’t you just want to give one a hug?

This lethal amphibious creature utilizes its sticky saliva to attach rocks to its front limbs, enhancing the force of its assaults. Beware, as it could potentially strike you with boulder boxing gloves.

Similar to Doshaguma, Chatacabra also reside in the Windward Plains. However, due to their amphibious characteristics, they may only appear when there is an abundance of water. We are uncertain whether to feel exhilarated upon seeing a stream or afraid.

Balahara

Balahara’s reintroduction brings back the highly sought-after Leviathan Monster class and is sure to thrill fans of Monster Hunter Tri’s flagship. Its slippery appearance suggests it has the ability to pack a powerful punch, whether facing a large group or on its own.

According to Capcom, these creatures are more intelligent than they appear. They have been known to use their twisting bodies to construct deadly quicksand traps. In fact, in the trailer, we witnessed them ensnare the unfortunate Doshaguma in one of these traps, and it was definitely not a pleasant experience.

Balahara, another Monster known to reside in the Windward Plains, raises curiosity as to whether it appears during times of abundance or only in the harsh desert conditions of the region. Undoubtedly, Hammer users are already considering how to attach its unique jaw structure onto their weapons.

Dau King

The intensity of the dreaded sandstorms that plague the region is so great that they generate electrical storms when they kick up.

Despite being a challenge for most, Rey Dau has no issue with this. As a powerful Flying Wyvern, it possesses its own bioelectricity and is impervious to the potentially hazardous lightning strikes that plague the surrounding area. This applies to even the most skilled of hunters.

The dominant position of this Monster in the food chain is primarily due to its ability to utilize its bioelectrical powers for formidable attacks. Its most intimidating form of attack consists of its horns folding over its face, functioning as a built-in railgun that shoots electricity at alarming velocities.

Experienced players understand that Rey Dau’s attacks will now have the added effect of Thunderblight, making it easier for them to stun opponents. To obtain this stylish outfit, it is advisable to gather a good supply of Nullberries.

Don’t be fooled

Monster Hunter Wilds Confirmed Monsters Lala Barina
Capcom

Despite the excitement of some, we have no interest in encountering Lala Barina, a Temnoceran in the world of Monster Hunter known as a repulsive giant insect. While Temnocerans have not received much attention lately, apart from the Rakna Kadaki, we still have no desire to encounter them.

Lala Barina debuted alongside the Scarlet Forest setting, where this eerie creature constructs its dwelling. The crimson water coating the forest floor raises suspicions, and we can’t help but wonder if this creature is somehow connected to its peculiar color.

The creature possesses an abdominal spike that gives off a menacing appearance, as if it were designed specifically for impaling its targets and bathing the surrounding area in their blood. Its movements are unpredictable and almost resemble a dance, but one must be cautious as it could easily turn into a deadly performance.

It appears that Capcom has made the decision to include Lala Barina in the main plot of Monster Hunter Wilds, which may be unsettling for those who fear spiders. Be cautious of its deceptive tactics, such as mimicking a harmless flower, as this creature is not to be underestimated.

Rathalos

Capcom

The presence of a Rathalos variant is a staple in any Monster Hunter game. This Wyvern, originally featured as the flagship Monster in the first installment of the series, returns for Monster Hunter Wilds.

During the initial reveal of Monster Hunter Wilds in 2023, we were able to catch a glimpse of Rathalos. However, the Monster Hunter Wilds website does not have an informational section, so we are unable to tell you where they will appear.

To ensure a successful hunt, we recommend preparing Flash Bombs beforehand. Without them, it will be difficult for hunters using melee weapons to take down Rathalos, as it is known to spend a lot of time in the sky.

Despite this, the added weapon-swapping feature could allow you to bring a ranged weapon, such as a Heavy Bowgun, to counter its agility. The Rathalos revenge tour is expected to be epic.

Sometimes you just gotta shoot stuff.

These are the currently confirmed Large Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds, with more expected to be unveiled in the upcoming months. A bonus is that Capcom typically showcases the weapons and armor that can be crafted from each Monster during these reveals.

We will closely monitor the developments surrounding Monster Hunter Wilds and prepare to provide you with all the necessary information to gear up for the greatest hunt of your life.
