The Back Door quest is a straightforward survival and extraction mission from Mechanic. The objectives include:

  • Locate the unpowered secret exit in Reserve.
  • Extract using that exit.

To complete the task, players must both survive and extract, as failing to extract will reset the “finding the unpowered secret exit” objective during that specific raid. This extraction point in Reserve often attracts many players, making it a hotspot.

Before entering a raid, it’s crucial to know the location of the unpowered secret exit, as navigating during gameplay can be challenging. This exit is the D2 extraction in Reserve; however, it may sometimes be unavailable or “blacked out.” To access the D2 extraction point, you must first activate the power. Here’s how to find the power switch and navigate to the D2 extraction point.

The power switch for the underground bunker is also located within the bunker itself. You can access the basement via one of the pawn and bishop buildings, which features stairs leading down to the bunker. Alternatively, a spiral staircase from the mountain dome descends into the underground bunker.

If approaching from the mountains, you’ll encounter the D2 extraction point first. However, if you traverse through the pawn and bishop buildings, you’ll find the power switch en route to the D2 extraction point.

In the images above, you can see both the switch and the underground office. The underground office is centrally located in the bunker, where you’ll find technical supplies and ration crates. You can break the glass in the office or take a back pathway to access the generators and locate the power switch.

After turning on the power, the D2 extraction point will be accessible. From the center of the underground bunker, you’ll notice a metal staircase leading up to the white king building. Instead of heading to the stairs, move toward the ramp shown in the first image.

Continue along this path; it is linear through each room. In the room filled with metal shelves and machinery, you’ll spot a door on the left. Entering this door will lead you directly to the D2 extraction.

Upon reaching the end, you’ll find a switch to open the D2 door. Open the door to extract from this location. This entire underground sector, particularly the paths leading to the D2 door, is among the most perilous areas in Tarkov. The D2 extraction itself is notorious for being a hotspot for players, commonly referred to as “rats” within the Tarkov community. Always approach with caution when using the D2 extraction.

If you have other tasks in Reserve, such as Special Comms, consider integrating these objectives into your raid strategy. Since the Back Door quest simply requires extraction, it is easy to multitask and complete additional assignments simultaneously. Reserve is also rich in military-grade loot, making it a lucrative location for collecting Roubles.
