Prefabs are a crucial resource in Frostpunk 2; without them, expanding your building options will be impossible.
However, it’s easy to become sidetracked by other game mechanics such as Cores and Fuels, causing you to overlook one of the most vital supplies in Frostpunk 2.
This guide will detail all the methods for acquiring Prefabs in Frostpunk 2, ensuring you have enough to build and expand as desired.
How to Acquire More Prefabs in Frostpunk
You can always monitor your Prefab count in the top left corner of the screen.
If you find yourself out of Prefabs but still have construction needs, here’s what you can do:
1) Salvage Prefabs from Abandoned Ruins
During the Prologue, there are only two ways to acquire more Prefabs: salvage the Abandoned Ruins located in the southwest corner of your outpost or demolish an existing structure. Let’s examine each option:
- Salvage Abandoned Ruins
Look for brick and log icons to identify Ancient Ruins containing Prefabs.
The abandoned ruins are marked by a brick-and-log icon in the southwest corner of your outpost. You’ll need to use Frostbreak to access them, but once you arrive, you’ll need to build an Extraction District to gather the Prefabs.
Your workers can extract up to 400 Prefabs from this location, making it an effective early-game strategy. Keep in mind, however, that while this is a great start, it isn’t a sustainable long-term solution.
- Demolish a District to Recycle its Prefabs
Deactivated buildings are non-functional, so demolish them to reclaim your Prefabs.
One of the Extraction Districts in the east becomes deactivated towards the latter half of the prologue. This is indicated by a receding black sign changing to red. This signifies the depletion of resources to mine, making it an ideal candidate for demolition to recover your Prefabs.
2) Set Up Industrial Production
Ensure you’re producing Prefabs within your Industrial Zone.
If you’ve progressed to Chapter 1, the options above are still valid, and you also gain an additional method: constructing an Industrial District—or multiple districts.
Place Industrial Districts on Frozen Forest tiles to produce either Goods or, specifically, Prefabs. This is typically the default production, but you can adjust the settings in the district to refocus production if necessary.
This approach guarantees a consistent supply of Prefabs as your city develops, allowing your construction projects to continue without interruption.
3) Dispatch Scouts
As you advance further into the game, you will have the opportunity to send out scouts to explore the frozen landscape. These Frostland Teams will be tasked with searching for additional Abandoned Prefab Ruins.
That covers everything you need to know about acquiring Prefabs in Frostpunk 2.
