Comprehensive Piplup Evolution Guide: Evolving Piplup in Pokemon GO

Piplup, a charming Water-type Pokémon from Generation IV, captures the hearts of trainers with its delightful blue body, a distinctive tuft of feathers atop its head, and its cute beak. This little Pokémon’s appealing design makes it a highly sought-after catch in the wild. Piplup is known for its evolutionary journey, which includes evolving into Prinplup and finally into Empoleon. However, many Pokémon GO trainers face a frustrating limitation: the inability to evolve their Piplups, as the evolve button is often missing from the Pokémon’s menu.

1. Why Can’t I Evolve Piplup in Pokémon GO?

The inability to evolve certain Piplups in Pokémon GO often stems from their classification as special event Pokémon. These Pokémon typically come adorned with unique accessories, such as hats for festive occasions. As a result, trainers are required to find a standard Piplup for it to evolve into its subsequent forms. Unlike Piplup, popular Pokémon such as Pikachu have designated event evolutions, allowing trainers to encounter decorated Raichus, whereas a Prinplup or Empoleon from an event remains unavailable.

2. How to Evolve Piplup in Pokémon GO

If you’re eager to evolve your Piplup into Prinplup, here’s how:

  • Gather 25 Piplup Candy.
  • Select the specific Piplup you wish to evolve.
  • Tap the pink “evolve” button to initiate the process.

After evolving into Prinplup, you can further upgrade it to Empoleon, requiring an additional 100 Piplup Candy.

To expedite candy collection, use a yellow or silver Pinap berry while capturing Piplups. Additionally, walking 3 kilometers with a Piplup or any of its evolutionary forms as your buddy earns you one candy per distance.

If you’re unable to evolve your event-specific Piplup, don’t lose hope! Regular Piplups can still be found in the wild. Being a pure Water-type Pokémon, Piplup tends to appear near bodies of water. For a more efficient catch, consider deploying a Rainy or Glacial Lure Module at a PokéStop to increase your likelihood of spawning a standard Piplup.
