Concerns Arise Among PC Gamers Over Monster Hunter Wilds System Requirements

Capcom announced the system requirements for Monster Hunter Wilds on September 24, 2024, but there are growing concerns among PC players regarding its optimization.

The recommended specifications for Monster Hunter Wilds indicate that players will need either an RTX 2070 or RTX 4060 to experience the game at optimal settings. Furthermore, the additional notes suggest that even with the recommended hardware, players should expect to run the game at 1080p and 60 fps on medium settings with frame generation.

For those unfamiliar, frame generation is a technique that allows the system to create additional frames alongside those produced by the graphics card, enhancing overall performance. However, the need for frame generation to achieve 60 fps at medium settings and 1080p, despite having top-tier hardware, has led many fans to question the game’s optimization potential.

Numerous fans voiced their concerns on the Monster Hunter Wilds subreddit, with comments such as, “This does not bode well.” Another user added, “The 4060 for 1080p / 60fps makes sense, but needing frame gen to do so screams unoptimized.”

This does not bode well … MHWorld was pretty enough, I don’t need this… (Hope I’m overexaggerating) by u/RealRadioFace in MHWilds

Additionally, the game will incorporate the anti-piracy software Denuvo, which is known to potentially cause performance issues. One user highlighted this concern, claiming, “With Denuvo, you might only hit 60 fps in the menu.”

Based on these PC system requirements, some players have expressed concerns about the performance of console versions, stating, “If these are the requirements on PC, the console versions are likely to suffer.”

Players’ worries are magnified by the fact that Monster Hunter Wilds shares similar specifications with Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2, which launched in March 2024 with significant performance issues, often struggling to maintain 15-20 FPS even on high-end systems.

Moreover, Monster Hunter Wilds was available for play at Gamescom 2024, where, despite praise for its mechanics and visuals, many attendees reported serious performance issues, including frequent fps drops and crashes.

These factors have generated anxiety among fans even four months ahead of the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds. There is no denying that Monster Hunter is a cherished franchise, with World being one of Capcom’s most successful titles in recent years and receiving several Game of the Year nominations in 2018.

Both veteran and new Monster Hunter fans have eagerly awaited a similarly expansive experience since the conclusion of Iceborne, even though Rise provided its own notable experiences. Nevertheless, if players encounter significant lags and stutters while playing Monster Hunter Wilds, it could sour the overall experience.

That being said, it is still early to make definitive judgments about the game’s performance, and Capcom could optimize the experience further before the release, with several months remaining before players can delve into the game.
