Concord Developers Share Their Reasons for Not Implementing a Battle Pass, Leaving Players Confused

Prior to its launch, the developers at Concord provided an explanation for why they chose not to include a battle pass and why they have no plans to add one in the future. This decision by Firewalk has left players perplexed.

The early access period for Concord has officially begun, with the highly anticipated global release on PC and PS5 just one day away. Despite holding an open beta in July, the 5v5 shooter did not attract a significant number of players.

Despite the game’s $40 price tag and requirement for a PlayStation Plus subscription and a PSN account linked to a PC, fans praised its gameplay, matchmaking, and retro-futuristic UI. Upon its release, players will have access to all characters.

Despite this, the developers of Concord have assured players that all upcoming content on their roadmap will be provided at no cost. Furthermore, players can expect to receive new content promptly upon its release. However, the game currently does not offer a Battle Pass, which has left many PvP shooter enthusiasts feeling confused.

Mark DeRidder, the animation director for the game, declared on X that the game will never feature a Battle Pass. He reassured players by stating, “There will be no Battle Pass, my friends. You possess Concord, Concord does not possess you.”

The developers’ decision caused a division within the community, receiving both praise from numerous users and rejection from those who were against the game being a paid purchase.

One player expressed, “It’s a bold move, but I’m all for it! Nowadays, everyone demands a Battle Pass in every game. I enjoyed the beta, so I’ll definitely be playing soon!”Another user, who is a fan of the game, commented, “I’m really pleased with this decision. It makes me less hesitant to purchase it at launch.”

Despite the game’s concept being disliked by some users, one replied, “Another live service that nobody asked for into the meat grinder.”Another user chimed in, “I have no intention of owning Concord, and I doubt the developers or their modern audience would have it any other way.”

Despite facing criticism for its character design since its reveal, the game has received a preview that highlights why Sony’s foray into the PvP shooter genre ultimately falls short of its potential.
