Pokemon has announced that Trainer’s Pokemon cards will be making a comeback to the TCG in 2025, as confirmed by a trailer showcasing the characters that will be featured.
The announcement was made at the conclusion of the Pokemon World Championships 2024 closing ceremony, held in Honolulu, Hawai’i from August 16 to 18.
This stunning preview showcases a variety of cards and trainers that will be part of upcoming Pokemon TCG expansions beginning next year. The list below contains all of the confirmed Pokemon owned by the trainers.
Lillie’s Clefairy
The upcoming return of Trainer’s Pokemon cards will feature Lillie from Pokemon Sun and Moon, as well as her Clefairy from Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
Lillie is a prominent character in the Alola-based games, accompanying the player as a friend and traveling companion while caring for her Cosmog, whom she affectionately named Nebby. Although she was not a trainer at first, she eventually becomes one following the conclusion of the main storyline.
Lillie is usually connected to Clefairy outside of Nebby. She is frequently spotted with a Poke Doll, which resembles Clefairy, and she gives one to the player as a gift at the conclusion of Sun and Moon. In USUM, she utilizes Clefairy during Episode RR.
Marnie and Her Grimmsnarl
Marnie’s Grimmsnarl will be one of the Trainer’s new Pokemon cards, along with several others. They were first introduced in the Galar region alongside the launch of Pokemon Sword and Shield.
Marnie is both a rival and a specialist in Dark-type Pokémon in those games, eventually assuming the role of Spikemuth Gym Leader.
Despite frequently appearing with a Morpeko, Marnie’s go-to Pokemon for late and post-game battles is her Gigantamax-capable Grimmsnarl.
N’s Zoroark & Reshiram
N from Pokemon Black and White, as well as Black 2 and White 2, is the sole confirmed trainer to receive multiple Trainer’s Pokemon cards so far. In the trailer, both his Zoroark and Reshiram have been unveiled.
In the beginning of Black and White, N is portrayed as an antagonist as he holds the position of leader within Team Plasma. However, it is later discovered that he has been manipulated and controlled by the actual mastermind behind the group, Ghetsis.
In the sequel to B2W2, N comes back to rescue the new protagonist by harnessing the power of the Legendary dragon he captured in the previous installment – Reshiram, in White 2.
Additionally, Zoroark is often seen alongside N in the games and official artwork, leading some fans to speculate that N may in fact be a Zoroark himself.
The Inheritance
Although his face and card were not revealed, it was hinted that Arven will be joining the TCG as a new Trainer next year. In the trailer, he is shown alongside his Mabosstiff, a key character in his storyline, making a sandwich. This suggests that he will be a rival and friend to the protagonists of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Misty
Although not explicitly depicted in the trailer, Misty’s reflection can be observed in the water alongside Psyduck, a Pokemon closely linked to Kanto’s Water-type Gym Leader.
Despite not utilizing it in the majority of her Gym battles (except for Let’s Go Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee!), Misty is known for owning a Psyduck in the Pokemon anime which frequently emerges from its Poke Ball and tends to create trouble for her. In addition, she relies on Golduck for most of her post-game battles.
Ethan
The trailer also confirms that the new Trainer’s Pokemon cards will include Johto protagonist Ethan, who is often overlooked. Despite being a beloved character from Generation II, Ethan has never been featured in the TCG before.
Team Rocket
Despite not showcasing any particular characters or Pokemon, the trailer concluded with the Team Rocket logo, suggesting that TCG players should brace themselves for potential challenges.
So far, those are all the Trainer’s known Pokemon cards!
